Alter Bridge - CD
17 New from
First of all - the music on this album is very different from the previous two albums, for those who are already familiar with lead singer and guitarist, Myles Kennedy's previous band 'The Mayfield Four,' you will find a lot of his old school styles influencing this record.
Whilst the album still carries that 'Alter Bridge sound' - it crosses the line over into the more 'experimental' spectrum and delivers a blistering and intense 14 track journey, which will be one of the most rewarding listening experiences you'll have in recent years.
The band has paid strict attention to detail in each song - you'll come back to this album and discover certain aspects, sound and elements that you didn't pick up on the first listen. The structure and progress of each individual song is extremely unique and moulded in a tight and complex style - from the clean finger-picking guitar openings of 'Coeur D'Alene' and 'Life Must Go On', which then kicks into a distorted and breath-taking stampede of powerful music from the band.
The themes of AB III explore the sense of loss, desperation, loneliness and salvation of a broken man's soul - mainly focusing on Myles Kennedy's struggle with his acceptance of faith and past troubles in his life. That in mind, this is also Alter Bridge's darkest album to date.
Masterly balanced out between heavy and melodic - the band explores different avenues of their influences, with Kennedy's Jeff Buckley and Motown influenced vocals (vocals, which in my opinion, are one of the best out there today) Mark Tremonti's blues and metal influenced guitar style, Brian Marshall's thundering bass and Scott Phillips' drumming, which seems to get more better and diverse with each album.
With 14 tracks, there's plenty to get your teeth into - each track going over the 4 minute mark, which proves true value for your money. There are no half-measures with AB III, like a work of art, true attention to detail and precision was applied to each song, very few alike and will leave you coming back for more whilst craving a fourth effort from this incredible band.
So dim the lights, make yourself comfortable and induldge in AB III.
In a time of regurgitated and manufactured music - it's rare to find music that is pure, unique, diverse and creates variety for itself, Alter Bridge is leading the way for the next generation of rock lovers.
