Nice hardware, windows mobile still needs work...

Generally this is a nice phone. It is a sensible size, not too heavy and sits very comfortably in the hand. Battery life, for a smart phone, is fairly good, I am getting 3 days of reasonable use, but if you use Wi-Fi then expect to charge it more regularly. Screen is really clear and easy to read, even though some other HTC phones have higher resolution. Email and calendar synchronisation works well.
HTC TouchFLO front end is quite nice, certainly better than native Windows mobile. Manual is OK, a bit superficial about more general windows mobile topics.
Reasons for not giving it 5 stars?
Mostly windows mobile. Even by version 6.5 it is still not a great phone O/S. Networking is particularly confusing, after weeks of trying I have admitted defeat on proxy configuration. I also can not find any sensible way of specifying connection preferences. It seems to be using a Wi-Fi connection in preference to a 3G connection, but the configuration is so obscure I am uncertain if this is just luck. The TouchFLO front end could also do with some tweaks. I would like a way to get fast access to at least one installed program from the initial screen, and I would also like to know why the front page current weather summary updates fine when I am at work, but never, ever, updates when I am at home, even though both locations have reasonable 3G service.

Had the phone for a week now and i was really excited about getting it but i must say im disapointed with it. The battery life is poor. I put it on charge yesterday afternoon around 1pm - fully charged it and by 11am the next day it was dead and I hadnt even made any calls on it. The wi-fi was enabled and i had text about 5 or 6 times but thats basically all it had been used.
The market place for it is dissapointing too. There arn't many apps/games available and a lot of them can be a bit pricey too.
The phone is a nice size and the screen has a decent picture but the touch screen can be a little akward too unless you use the 'pen' provided which i didnt really want to use. I wanted a touch screen that i touch and this isnt really made to be touched by hand (even though its called a'touch 2'!). Yes, you can operate it by touch but you find yourself ringing numbers you didnt really want to ring by mistake. It is also advertised making a big thing out of facebook etc but you are very limited in what you can actually do and view on there. I have an ipod touch and the facebook app is a lot better on there than it is on the HTC. So overall im very disapointed with it. The phone is ok for the price, it looks nice and the camera is ok, but if you have a bit more extra cash, save your money and put it towards an iphone.

 Hate It

Well what can I say...It most certainly does not do what it says on the tin, iv'e had this phone for over 12mths now and am continually frustrated with it. I got it so that I could sync my phone with my laptop and keep up to date with emails and to this day the active sync function still refuses to work. You are supposed to be able to microsoft the phone as well, t connects to the net almost every night without it being asked to and always displays unable to complete task...They say it has a speaker phone and that you can listen to sounds via an inbuilt speaker I cant find these functions anywhere on the phone and am pc phone literate...Finally the only main instructions that you get for the phone are via the web and are Not very helpfull at all, for example if you type in speakerphone in the search bar it always returns as item not found... If I was able to I would give this phone a Minus 5 rating and cant wait untill I can change it for an Android phone....Oh yes and if your finger tip is any larger than a pen tip then absolutely forget the touchscreen being acurate at all, I have to use a stylus with it All the time...
