Samsung I9000 Galaxy / Android / Sim Free / Unlocked / Touch Screen Mobile Phone

Have had the Galaxy S since 19th June and have fully exploited the potential of this device now, loaded it with multimedia and installed more than 20 very useful apps. The phone is nothing less than phenomenal and does not have any setbacks (i.e iPhone's ridiculous signal problem) and handles everything that i have had to throw at it so far, 720p video captures, DIVX/XVID movies, high res pictures, live audio streams, full internet browsing, 3G video calling and it does it all with minimum fuss and the screen (Super AMOLED) is simply the best bar none. Yes the iPhone has higher resolution but pixel for pixel it has better contrast and colours, the vividness of the screen will spoil you and you will never want a normal TFT again.

The SWYPE text input works very well, the whole experience has just been so smooth and painless.

Some negative points however... Battery life is terrible if you play with it all the time, but this is not an exclusive problem to this phone.

No Flash support as yet, but Froyo release will remedy this.

Overall from social networking to multimedia handling, this phone does it with a smile and never breaks a sweat.

If you can afford it, buy it.

Bought this from Play.com and was surprised to find no pc disc inside and no attachment for power lead; so I have to download through my laptop, with a cable that will not link my laptop to the pc, because I have no drivers...which I must now seek and hopefully download. Considered contacting Play to get the missing pieces but soon found myself frustrated my trying to e-mail them....because you cant....??

I feel the need to reply to Zongamin. If your GPS is rubbish and your camera takes up to 30 seconds to open maybe you do not have the ability to set the phone up properly or you have messed something up. I have just got one of these phones and it is quite simply the best phone I have owned (yes, I have had an Apple fashion accessory), quick GPS, faultless WiFi, superb display, the list is a big one. The size of the phone is not an issue, do you hear people complaining about the size of the Apple fashion accessory?. The only complaint I have is that the camera does not have a flash, but then I have a camera which I use for photos. The camera is good under normal lighting conditions though. The best thing though is that you are not tied to the buggy, bloated Itunes software. You can load your tunes to the sd card or sync with Windows. I had a HTC Legend before this and the battery life was rubbish, lucky to get a day with very little use. I get up to 3 days from this phone, you can download Juice Defender free from the Android store to extend this even more if you want. To sum up, you will not be disappointed with this phone.

I currently work for a mobile phone retailer and so spend an awful lot of time getting to grips with the new handsets as they come in, to be fair of late nothing has stood out, with the exception of this handset.

Firstly, yes the battery life isn't great and will probably need charging every 24 hours if you're a higher user (internet, calls, texts, downloading from the marketplace) but at the moment if you look across the board with smart phones each and everyone suffers from the same problem! as has been mentioned before there is an app available to stop any unnecessary applications therfeore improving the battery life.

The touch screen is very sensitive, but you can decrease the sensitivity of the screen, i was blessed with fat fingers and being heavy handed and as of yet haven't found the touch screen to be overly sensitive.

The processor in this thing is crazy! It is so fast, you will find that it outstrips even your wildest of immaginations! No flash with the camera isn't a major drawback, surely if you want a camera to do x, y, z then you would buy a camera to serve that purpose, the camera on a mobile phone is there to serve the purpose of capturing the odd moment here and there and so far i haven't found this one to be lacking.

The swype feature is great, again for someone with larger digits touch screens have never been user friendly, but with swype you just run your finger over the keys you want to type and it gives you all the potential options!

I have to admit i am certainly anti-i, but i would never claim this to be an 'iphone killer' they are the same, they just work slightly different, if, like me you fancy an alternative then this is the one!

Lets get one thing straight, this is a good smartphone, it is just not a great smartphone compared to others out there such as the HTC HD desire and iphone 4 in the same price area. I used to have this phone and at first really enjoyed it, but then strange things started to happen, the phone would randomly freeze, turning it on and off again took a year. The internet is also slow and sometimes very unresponsive, clicking the facebook app was painful and when the app didn't force close it would take ages to load up, loading up pictures was often impossible and this was in a Wifi & 3G area so must be the phone. That a side the phone itself is very nice and the screen quality is second to none, The above issues though were too much and I changed to a HTC HD Desire which I must say for the same price is miles ahead. Choose carefully.
