  great piece of kit

| | See all growler's reviews (20)

replaced this for my nokia n86, took the plunge and opted for a touchphone due to being used to the operating software on nokia's, the camera is fantastic and it takes you next to no time to get used to the touchscreen operations, very innutative. You have to buy a separate hdmi lead to attach to your tv but if you do the quality is out of this world. Overall a fantastic piece of kit that in my opnion has alot for going for it then the iphone4, more benefits and less limitations, only down side is that the battery is built in so be warned that if you spend alot of time on line or using the sat nav the battery lasts about 5 hours max...buy a car charger to not get caught out

I bought my N8 having ditched my iPhone 4. I hadn't used a Nokia since my N95 days but I must say I am really impressed by the N8. As everyone says the camera is simply awesome. I purchased a 16gb microsd card since I take a lot of video. HD playback on my tv via the supplied HDMI connector is amazing. I no longer have need for my camcorder. The only downside to the phone is its slightly clunky Symbian operating system that hasn't changed that much since my N95 days. That said its got a major upgrade coming soon (and I received a minor upgrade the other day OTA which saved me connecting to a pc). I can still play Angry Birds (its brilliant for children's parties connected to a tv by the way) and the OVI store is getting better (although its way behind the App Store in terms of content). Overall I'm really happy with the N8 (the one star deduction is solely for the OS which should be sorted in a month or so with the new Anna OS upgrade). Oh iPlayer is great on it and I can download programmes too!

  Excellent hardware

| | See all joshb91's reviews (17)

Good points:
- Best camera on ANY phone, better than my compact camera.
- Good HD video recording.
- Very solid build quality, good aluminium unibody and nice finish.
- Very good, bright screen.
- Good graphics on games.
- Responsive touch screen.
- Brilliant sat nav, free for life with Ovi Maps.
- Excellent battery life.
- Outstanding call quality, more than you can say for certain other smartphones...

Bad Points:
- Somewhat outdated operating system, not as slick as others.
- Ovi Store has quite a few good games and apps, but is limited in comparison to others.
- Could do with processor upgrade, occasional lag.
- Lack of portrait QWERTY keyboard.

It's a question of hardware or software, you won't get a better phone in terms of hardware but there are easier to use and 'better looking' operating systems out there other than Symbian 3. For me it's a great phone, main problem is the QWERTY keyboard issue but that is going to be resolved with the Symbian Anna update coming to this device - nicer icons, improved maps, portrait QWERTY, improved browser etc.

Great Camera.
But the rest of the phone is very average.
Battery life is just acceptable.
Screen is average.
Old tech.

An excellent phone. Well made and stylish looking. Features are good including video editing and 12mp camera. HDMI to upload to tv is good quality too.

I really like the metal feel and bright screen. Its a little weighty but you know its well made. Slim too. Nice silver edging to buttons and good sound.
Speedy navigation and smooth screen movements.

Overall a very, very good phone by nokia.

I have had this phone on contract since november last yr. All I can say it is a very good phone, though I would say if you gonna use it for games take the battery off power saving as some of the games will not work..Camera excellent bar none, apps good for what there is on the OVI store and well assasins creed Hd on the phone is brilliant game well worth 3pounds, even better than my PSP on times in terms of graphics anyroad. Well worth getting as it is easy to use and a good all round phone if you not a nokia convert you would be with this phone!

  n8 and symbian3 offer a great combo

| | See all buxz777's reviews (2)

had the n8 since launch and even sold an iphone4 to buy one

been a nokia lover for ages but after they dryed up a bit i went for an iphone4

as soon as the n8 hit the stores i had to try one out and boy i wasnt dissapointed

it was no hassle to sell the iphone4 and stick with the n8 , the n8 is just the perfect convergance device , with the xenon flash you can take pics night and day ina wesome quality

seriously the photo quality is immense , after you have taken a pic zoom into it and check the captured detail you wont believe its from a camera phone , the detail captured was better then that from my samsung wb600 12mp digital camera its that good and iam now selling the wb600 as apartfrom optical zoom the n8 out performs it in almost every type of shot

wether your using the n8 as a camera , music player , social networking hub ,email device , gps device , web browser , gaming machine or for everything like me it wont dissapoint you pr1.0 firmware is very stable and there is a massive update coming soon adding 50+ ui tweaks and extras

symbian3 shouldnt be compared to other versions of symbian its much much beter and refined and will be recieving alot of updates

i could go on about the n8 all day but its so much to cover

to sum it up it does eevrything really well , is made well , built out of high grade materials and is fun to use and own , the gps is superb and the music player is excellent as is the video player that plays avi and divix out of the box

the box contents are also very good with all the cables you need for hdmi and usb2go etc making it even more of a bargain

another quick thing the iphone4 and the n8 cost the same to make yet the n8 can be bought for 300 from shops and the iphone4 around 550

its a really good phone that i wouldnt hesitate to recomend infact i wanna buy another as a backup i love it that much lol :-)

I was inspired by all the reviews on here about this phone, and am glad i made the right choice. This really is the Phone to have..I planed to get it for a while, and for my first smart phone, I know i made the correct decision. I love the way you can just make it whatever you want...its no iphone, not made to be an iphone, MADE TO BE BETTER, AND IT IS!

  The I Phone Killer

| | See all joeplay's reviews (3)

Previous reviews have stated the main features on this phone, so I feel no need to do it again. All I have to say is if you re looking for a new phone, then STOP and buy this. The Nokia N8 is TOP draw and years above itself. The last few Nokia's I owned, I had issues with them, I said to myself if this is not up to standard then this will be the last Nokia I ever buy. The company must have read my mind, because this phone is too good to go into full detail. I phone, what's that?
