i have just bought this phone and i must say i was pleasantly supprised by its design and features. my previous phone was a samsung jet this phone had some good specs but support for this phone was appalling. the gt540 on the other hand as android market with thousands of apps for you to choose. the screen is very responsive for a resistive touch format (not for the heavy handed) i use the slightest touch and it works fine, i use the tip of my thumb nail which makes the screen more responsive. the design is excellent not too big. i.ve downloaded all sorts of apps and they all work fine and all were free. the speed of the internet is faster than my samsung jet. you can download google navigation for free, the speech software is amazing you don`t have to type just speak and google will find it for you. the shopper app you can download is a bar code reader it uses the camera and you point it at a bar code and it displays all the shops best prices. its brilliant. anyway for the money this an excellent phone. it runs the 1.6 android which is not a lot different form 2.1 my brother as the htc desire. and we both download the same apps and they do exactly the same on both phones. the camera is good in daylight but not in the dark there is no flash. but to be honest how many of you use the camera on your mobiles??? it mainly facebook and internet. just remember is not a super smart phone.

 Loving the phone

I received the phone a few days ago, and its absolutely brilliant! For a smart entry level phone this is a good one I've seen and tested by far. The size is a good comfortable size to hold and use, the screen is the nice size to play all the games you can get from the android market for a phone. The wifi functionality is easy to use. The only downer is I have to charge it each night, but thats only cause I play with the phone so much! :S

Great smart phone for the money, performance lacks sometimes

The GT540 is a great budget option to enjoy most things a modern smart phone can do. Build quality is ok, screen has a very fine resolution with good brightness and colours. It is the cheaper resistive type but is very sensitive and generally works just fine. The phones processor, however, does make the whole phone lag and stutter a lot of the time, especially if you fill it with lots of widgets, apps, live wallpapers (on OS 2.1 and above), texts, contacts and media. The Android OS is just superb, can be customized almost endlessly to your liking, with shortcuts and widgets galore. And of course the Android Market app store is second only to Apples, where you can improve and enhance the phone with loads of free stuff. First thing I changed was the on screen keyboard as the LG one is severely lacking in it's predictive abilities! Also not helped by the cramped and fussy layout. To sum up, a superb and completely capable smart phone on a budget, just don't expect HTC Desire or iPhone performance..... (Angry Birds runs in slow motion, Matrix style 'bullet time'. Hehe!)
