This phone is amazing. The camera's fantastic, the apps are awesome and the various stuff it can do is really impressive. The only problem is the battery. This phone lasts generally up to about 8 hours without charging, which isn't very good in comparison with my old phone.

i researched a lot before deciding on this phone, the only negative thing people where saying was that the battery did'nt last very long.
the first couple of days the battery was terrible only lasting a few hours under heavy use.then i read about calibrating the battery and it has more than doubled the battery life.
this phone is excellent.

When i was due a phone upgrade i got a iphone4 which was ok but after killing it in the sink wile doing the pots and the insurance paying me out as i didn't want another iphone and as i wanted the HTC Desire HD before i got the iphone i got it and i was not disappointed this phone is AMAZING looks great ram'd with tech cams great in comparison with it the iphone the HTC feels 2-4 generations a head of it.
just a much nicer phone to use also the bigger screen is beter IMP.
Also four people i know who have iphone 3's and 4's and are due upgrades are not converted to the HTC as they all are getting this phone or the newer one.
its also very tuff as i have dropped myn across my work car park 2-3m with only small amount of damage/scratches.

The best phone I have owned.

This is an outstanding phone and would definately recommend over any other smartphone out there.
The screen is amazing, huge size and clear display. Response of the touch is great no lag or unresponsiveness.
The phone is intuitive and easy to use and the home screens are fully customisable to fit it to your own taste.
Android marketplace is great so long as you know what you are looking for as there is a lot available but the quality and bredth of the apps available is great and it is easy to see reviews etc before you download.
In terms of battery life, yes it can die within a day - day and half but that is pretty standard for smartphones. Make sure that you do things like turn off GPS when you dont need it and it will give it a good boost.

right got this phone last week, and i got to say i have been impressed by the phone. touch is amazing! camera quality is to be fair excellent. most applications you can download that are free are great. all in all a very good phone for a contract..... though there is a flaw, the same with most smart android phones, the battery be lucky if you get a day in a bit out of it if you use it for minor things.

  Best phone I've ever had

Right - It does everything super fast, the screen is HUGE, it is nice and sleek, it does everything you ever need it to - the battery life is not amazing, but it is good for a new smartphone!! Of course the battery isn't going to last days when it's just a small computer...
Definitely better than the iPhone 4

Not recommended if you want to actually use

If you'd like a phone to use as a MOBILE phone, this is not the one. Battery is dreadful, basically has to be permanently plugged in to be used.

Before I got the Desire HD I read so many user reviews. I couldn't find one that gave me actual usage and battery life, I'm an It consultant so I do a lot if research on things like this before I spend my hard earned cash.

I have read so many reviews that complain about the battery, thought I would take the risk and get the phone anyway, and have had it for almost a month now with the phone improving every day, feature and battery wise.
In my experience the battery life is good enough in todays world of high powered, feature filled smartphones.

The phone is setup with the screen on 50% brightness as I haven't found the need for it to be any brighter, WiFi and mobile data with auto sync enabled all the time. I have Facebook, weather and news syncing every hour and exchange and hotmail email every 10mins. My normal working week involves a 3 hour train journey each day. During this time I use the phone for a mix of listening to music, watching videos, playing a few games and browsing the web, some of which is done at the same time. During my working day I average around 1 hour of call time, about 45mins sending sms messages and the rest the phone is idle working away on its own with the setup sync schedules. At the end of a 12 hour working day I have on average around 25% of battery life remaining.
Yesterday was the first time I used the mapping feature thinking it would use a lot more battery with the gps, to my surprise I found the pub I was looking for within 5 mins of using the map whilst listening to music and spent the night sending a few sms messages and showing off my phone to friends and got home with over 15% battery left, as I type this review I have just got a notification that my battery is at 5% and I should charge it. The phone has been off charge for 1 day and 2 hours.

To my expectations of smartphones I am impressed with the battery life, possibly because I have read so many bad reviews and wasn't expecting this much battery life.

I have had to plug in my charger as the phone died but with the quick boot function and the Android memory management I have not lost any of this review. The hardware is fantastic, all the way from the inner components to the casing and screen, which might only be an lcd, but can only tell the difference in the blacks and whites if you are looking for it. The camera is great, picture quality is very good for a phone.

Just a footnote I have never owned an iPhone so cannot make any comparisons, my last phone was a Nokia n97 and this beats it hands down. Not knocking the iPhone as it is a brilliant device, a friend has one and his died last night after approximately the same kind of use I make out of my phone, so he had to borrow mine to make a call... in my mind that's a victory for the HTC Desire HD.
