I upgraded from a line of Nokia phones.

This had small anoyyances in the first few weeks and it felt like there were about 1000 different options so took a lot of flicking around before finding fixes!. But any problem just google it and you find it's a simple solution!
Keyboard took a bit of bashing before it started typing smoothly

Music player is the only bad software, i didn't find a eq option which makes music sound bland.
I bought double twist player for a fiver on the andriod market and after adjusting the EQ music is perfect and syncing with double twist on the PC is easy and can be done wirelessly

After i got these things out the way it became the perfect phone to own, all smiles now :)

  Better than iPhone 4

Opted for desire z rather than an iPhone and so glad I did! Easy to set up and navigate, Internet pages load faster than the iPhone. My husband has offered to swap and let me have his phone 4 , no way ! This phone is loads better than the iPhone.

  Great Phone

My previous phone a Blackberry torch was a great phone, however as i wasn't someone who would use it for business (generally how BB's are meant to be used) i didnt feel i was getting everything from it. I then got this, the Desire Z, which is possibly the best phone i've ever had. Not only is the screen a good size and accurate when using it for touch but it is colourful and beautiful. I like my phone to have a physical keyboard as well as a virtual one and the motion that the keyboard appears is fantastic (you turn it sideways and push the tophalf and it lifts up and forward and down again rather than just slide). The android market is much better than BB's and the live wallpapers are a key selling point.

A must have for any smartphone lover who wants a physical keyboard!

My first Android phone blows away my Nokia N97 mini.

I'm a teen who usually sends about 50 to 60 texts a day, and I can say that this phone has never let me down at all. The keyboard feels quite satisfying, although it does require more push than it does on my Nokia, it's a 4 row (a bonus compared to my Nokia's 3 row keyboard ) The threaded SMS is beautiful!

The screen is big and great, it does have Gorilla Glass display (as confirmed on GSM Arena ), practically speaking, it is unscratchable, unshatterable, completely withstanding type of glass used as a protective window.

The feel and build quality is outstanding, a rubber matte feel and aluminium casing all around, I love the fact it has a dedicated sliding button to release the aluminium battery cover, making it easy to either switch batteries and memory cards from time to time. This also prevents the metal cover from being bent by accident, although it is quite sturdy, and not thin and flimsy at all.

As for the battery usage, you can easily reduce battery usage. Do the following:
Go into "Settings" and "Wireless & networks" then scroll down and untick the "Mobile network". Job done.

Doing so would stop any apps from accessing the internet in the background or foreground regardless of what you're doing. Also put your brightness to automatically adjusted. this will help too.

There's also convenient HTC widget for toggling this as well as your other wireless connections (i.e WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.), you will find this through "Widgets" then "Settings" then "Network dashboard" something along those lines.
Presto! You can instantly allow constant internet connection in just as few as two presses! (Providing that you've put the widget in main homescreen)

As far as the hinge goes, I have not had any problems or issues with it. I'll admit the hinge is quite weak compared to my N97 mini, but nonetheless the hinge is still strong and not breakable unless you do something out of the ordinary.

The optical trackpad is an added convenience, it does come in handy at times, but isn't used on a daily basis. It does help to correctly select a link without having to zoom-in completely.

The camera of this phone is probably one of it's downfalls when compared to my N97 mini's camera, pictures aren't always sharp or clear, the slightest shake or movement while hitting the shutter button will completely distort the image. Hence I would have to re-take some photos before seeing any good results. With my Nokia it was simply a matter of having the correct distance for the autofocus to work then press the shutter button, it would give me a perfectly clear, vibrant and sharp image. Apparently the Desire Z loses in this case.

One of my main reasons for buying this is the HTCSense.com facility to backup, remotely wipe data, track and locate, call it from a silent profile to a loud one. This doesn't work out of the box, you have to register and also allow this feature on your phone.

As for parents of teens, this track and locate feature would come in handy, as long as your teen does not know about this feature and then deactivates it from the phone.

Overall having this phone as my 19th B'Day present was great for me, despite dual-core phones are coming out, I have rooted my phone and overclocked it (it can go from 800MHz to 1.4GHz!), this is so it can keep up with future higher power demand from apps and other uses to come in the two years I have this phone for. I'm on 24 month contract.

  Absolutely Fantastic-the Desire Z.

This android phone is out of this world.....I have only had it for a week or so but its very difficult for me to praise it enough.
The screens an excellent size.....the feel and operation of the phone is superb. A bit of patience is needed to learn all of its capabilities and I am sure I still have lots to master. With a small 5 pound internet pack per month theres enough scope to download apps, music, watch some utube, read or watch news, use twitter/facebook etc etc etc.Superb camera/camcorder and photo editor....with loads of storage on the sd card thats supplied.
Absolutely brilliant....and a good price at Play.com of course.

As a dedicated Blackberry user I thought long and hard about my next phone - Torch, IPhone or Android. I saw the Desire Z, with the keyboard and made my decision. This was in November 2010, and I've been delighted with the phone. It's slick, well designed and sturdy. While holding the phone in the case I decided to check my watch, simultaneously tipping the phone out onto a concrete pavement, but it was fine. The interface is intuitive and lively and, as would be expected, there are apps galore. The keyboard mechanism is well crafted too, which is great for longer emails. Definitely to be recommended.

Wow. Superb bit of kit but beware. Don't get carried away downloading stuff or using applications such as Facebook without taking an internet browsing package on your mobile tarrif. My 1st mobile bill was a bit of a shock. Excellent as an ebook. Screen clarity is excellent and the pop-out keyboard is brilliant, even for the biggest of hands. All in all not a bad upgrade from my Viewty.

  Mega Handset Love it

Had the phone a couple of days, really like it all round much faster than my old HTC Legend.

Keyboard is handy especially if web browsing, but have also got swype installed for text input straight onto the touch screen if required.

Battery initially was a little disappointing however after settling down and not playing on it so much I can charge and it will last me two days, providing I make sure I dont leave wifi or anything too draining on the battery running when not in use. The hinge feels light and nice to open for the keyboard, there has been comments of it being too loose, but appears fine on mine :)

All round nice handset, my previous hardware qwerty keyboard handset was my old N97 and this is miles ahead of that, just in the operating system alone.

If you don't need the qwerty go for the desire hd or even just the desire, if you prefer hard buttons I am sure this will be just up your street.
