This phone is much better than the Iphone4, the screen is crystal clear, sounds and movies play smooth and without the need to read a huge manual. Plus you can simply put your sim card in and go. This phone also comes with an 8 gig micro sd card. What more could you want from a phone, this does it all. Move over Apple.
I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I ordered this as I haven't used Android that much but it has lived up to all expectation and beyond. Great screen even in direct sunlight, brilliant build quality and fast OS without any lag from the 1 Ghz processor. Definately worth the money.
Pros: Flash playing is super smooth (NO LAG!) camera flash=seriously bright, Screen=high resolution usability=excellent.Smooth scrolling browser.Enough app storage. Battery life: Have no idea what reviews are complaining about, battery life for a tech freak like myself is more than 24h, and about 24hours when iv been texting all day, playing 3d games and STREAMING videos off the net for about 3 hours in total. Call quality:average id say nothing to scream about. Video recording= very nice 720p HD but obviously its not going to b better than a true HD camcorder. Shame it doesnt have a lanyard strap hole built into the phone making it prone to dropping but it can be affixed using some common sense. Not an overly large screen (came from a HTC hero). Gorilla glass or not get a screen protector, it will get superficial scratches over time. Minimalist design is sleek and stylish, wait till you hold it in your hands. No lag in gaming (3d games being tested). Front camera is solid and perfect for videos and pictures. Call speaker is loud (perhaps too loud) speakerphone at rear is nice and crisp. Dual core is a gimmick for now, really is not necessary, there arent even any games that can utilise dual cores, and to be honest..its a phone not a gaming rig.. For the average tech freak this is a technological marvel, for an enthusiast dual cores may be more to their liking. For the average user this will blow you away. Perfect superphone.
Cons: seen it with 3 desire s phones, low brightness causes screen flicker, must be a manufacturing fault, but its barely noticeable, and a software update may rectify the voltage imbalances causing the screen flicker. No lanyard strap hole. Hard to see screen in direct sunlight (i mean direct, not on a sunny day under a tree). No others so far and had the phone for 1 month with heavy (very heavy) usage.
This phone is a must easy to use plenty of apps, good battery,
Wife loves it she`s not that good with technology but she loves it.
4 out of 5 Star`s
I have used my Desire S almost every day for 10 months now and have just pensioned it off as I was given a Nexus 4 for Xmas. The first thing you notice about the Desire S is that it sits in the hand very well and the phone feels a quality piece of engineering. I have dropped mine twice - once off the Motorbike at 30mph - other than minor scratches in the case - luckily the screen did not break and it still works flawlessly. Compared with my last HTC Desire, the Desire S is lightening fast and runs all apps without any lag - quicker than the iPhone 4s. On Android 2.3 it worked very well but I upgraded the operating system to ICS (Android 4.0) using the official HTC update in Sep: the phone is now even better and does everything smoothy and the menus and apps etc are far more user friendly and at least match (and in some areas beat) my wife's iPhone 4s without any of iOS's restrictive DRM issues. Battery life is good and I get at least 24hrs and usually 2 days out of mine with mobile left on during the working day (though a decent App Killer helps). Sound quality is great and as a phone it does all I want. Memory is easily expandable and I use a 32 GB memory card. As expected 3g, WiFi and GPS all work brilliantly with easy setup and clear reception. The only issue I had was that my PC was initially reluctant to run HTC Sync but after a bit of fiddling and some help from HTC's free and very helpful phone support it now works well - though for a while I had had to resort to putting music on using the removable SD Card.
All in all, a very high quality Phone at a very reasonable price - and have only moved to another (the Nexus 4) as I wanted a bigger screen and as Santa was generous. However, the Nexus 4 is next Generation and moves the whole game much further on in terms of graphics, speed and Android 4.2 is simply brilliant - not sure, however, if it will stand the physical abuse that my HTC endured. Would I buy another Desire S again given the past 10 months experience - most definitely
