The USB SIM Manager is an invaluable tool to help mobile phone users backup their phonebook data, SMS messages, making it easy to switch over to a new SIM card. Entering contacts via your mobile handset can be a laborious and time consuming chore, with the USB SIM Manager the data can be entered via the PC / Laptop using the keyboard and then saved to the new SIM card.

Having a backup of the SIM card's phonebook is handy when upgrading or changing network, but invaluable when you your phone is lost or stolen.

Device + software is not 100% compatible with all SIM cards

I purchased this device to use with separate PAYG SIM cards from three different networks.

The installation on a laptop running Windows XP SP2 was straightforward and the instructions were easy to follow. My observations are as follows:-

1. Virgin Mobile SIM (2002)
2. Orange SIM (2008)

Provides the ability to edit / copy / delete / create / backup / restore SMS text messages and phone contacts on SIM card, as advertised.

The only problem that I experienced was the minor corruption of two out of ten SMS text messages during the backup and restore process. I am not sure how or why this happened.

3. T-Mobile SIM (2008)

This SIM card has been formatted so that it is possible to record a maximum of two telephone numbers + one email address for a single contact. I assume this was the choice of the Network provider.

Unfortunately, the USB Sim Card Manager appears capable of only reading the first telephone number for each contact. If an individual contact includes a second telephone number or an email address then this extra information is not captured by the device / software.

I recommend that buyers check the format of their SIM contacts before buying this product. It works fine as long as there is only one telephone number for every individual contact on the relevant SIM card . This fact should have been clearly shown in the listing in order to prevent disappointment.

 Didnt Work!

Loaded the software without a problem but when I put my SIM card into the USB reader nothing happended! Very disapointed.

Easy to use device which does the job - why pay more?

Without wishing to be rude, I suspect the reviewer below may have put his/her SIM in the device either the wrong way up or the wrong way round, which is easy to do as it's not obvious at all how to insert it (I had a little period of trial and error myself...!)

Anyway, once I'd got my SIM inserted correctly this device was a doddle to use: cheap and cheerful interface which is extremely straightforward and backs up all of your info reliably and pretty quickly. I was actually a little surprised it worked because I have a ToucanMobile SIM, which aren't very common, but I guess they're all the same in technical terms.

As for the software, I had to insert the installation CD a few times before it would work, but then again I've got Vista which no software company in the world seems prepared for! It was very easy to install once my system finally recognised the CD, though.

So, overall I'd say you really can't go wrong with this, especially when some models are three times the price and do exactly the same thing. Recommended!

 Excellent Device
