The W350i is, so we are told, primarily a music player with a phone thrown in. But as anyone who has loaded their iPod or Zen can tell you, it shouldn't take 3 minutes per track as the Sony Ericson software suite recodes your MP3 files into the more compact AAC format. Loading any sizeable quantity of music will, therefore, be a labour of love. The headphones provided are of excellent quality but, as they have to connect via the S.E. universal socket and not a more user-friendly standard 3.5mm mini jack, the whole earphone kit becomes ungainly. In addition, the switching system incorporated into the earpiece lead seems to have no effect on anything and the rubberised cords have a distinctly unpleasant feel against the skin! Conclusion: If you want a music player - just buy one!

Let's try the radio feature. Tuning and storing channels is straight forward enough, but listening to them throws up a few problems. The volume buttons are fiddly and inaccurate; the switching between mono and stereo seems to have no effect, but the most important flaw this function reveals is the shocking lack of battery stamina this handset possess. Two hours of radio listening will drain the battery to a point where only "Emergency Calls Only" is a recurrent theme.
As a Phone, I found listening to incoming calls tricky as the "flip" panel gets in the way of a normal hand posture (even more so when trying to text!) and the speaker positioning has to be "just so" for you to be able to hear clearly.
The internet and email functions work ok, but you've got to be desperate to view stuff on this tiny screen! That said, it's a VERY compact and sexy looking phone, so you can hardly expect widescreen HD.
So; it's a good looking and compact phone with many useless features, and I can only score this low when compared to my last (and soon to be next, again!) phone - the Nokia 6300.
All in all - not recommended, style above content.
