     You can keep your iphone!

I have had a whole host of Nokias over the years, most recently the n73, 6120 classic, N82 and the latest E66. I have had this phone for nearly a week and it really shows what Nokia can do once they get their act together.

It is a very light phone, the slimmest N series to date and is essentially a slim & light version of the N82 with software that actually works. The battery life is superb (better than N82) and in addition to the N82 functions it also has internet radio, an FM transmitter and an improved media player interface. GPS locking is quicker and functions such as internet connectivity via bluetooth and cable are far more reliable. The camera is as good as that on the N82. All these functions were really poorly represented in the E66 which didn't even have a functional realplayer and a catalog of other bugs.

On the downside the interface is a bit too busy, listing all your to-do notes (rather than the previous single line telling you how many to-dos are outstanding). In keeping with N series phones you are also stuck with the displayed options including the search tool and wireless finder. The buttons are a bit stiff but at least the keypad is a huge improvement on the n82, even though it does retain a few of the small stick-out buttons. These are all minor irritations though, which are far outweighed by the positives.

Overall though, a fine phone and finally one to allay the criticisms of a long line of buggy Nokias.

Best mobile I have ever owned!

The nokia n79 is simply sublime! It is easily the best mobile phone i have ever used and ive had them all from the iphone to the n95. This phone is basically a nokia n96 shrunk into a much smaller, lighter and more attractive body. The phone is very sleek and stylish and the keypad is very well thought out and works a treat. The software on the phone is also amazing, ive had the phone for about a week now and not once has it lagged or crashed on me! The camera lens quality is much better than the sony ericsson cyber-shot phones and the mp3 function is awesome but it wont replace my ipod just yet. The sat-nav function in the phone is slightly complicated i found but once you get it to work it is fantastic as it gives you turn by turn voice guided navigation just like a stand alone satnav device. The phone aslo has wifi so you can surf the net and although it is know where near as good as having a laptop, it is still very usable! If you are looking at buying a smart phone like the nokia n96 but are put of at that high price tag, then get this phone as i assure you it does everything the n96 does!

Btw - i ordered the grey version of this phone on play.com but they sent me the white version by mistake. I kept it anyway as the white one just looked so awesome!

     Neat Little Phone

I have received my N79 phone and I am really pleased with it. It had v10 firmware on but after waiting about 10 - 15 mins for the ew firmware to download the phone seems to work better. All i can say is the build quality is excellent! and i dont know why i put off buying this phone. I am really fussy about the keypad on phones, as i had a C902 which went back as i couldnt get used to the awkward keypad and the GUI (as I normally send a lot of text messages and the phone just couldnt keep up with me), but I picked up the N79 and thought, this is a sturdy phone and the keypad is a bit like the 6300. The buttons are pretty much the same size but they are a bit wider, easy to press and i can text on the N79 just as quick as i could on the 6300. The Menu key on the left and the C key on the right are also easily accessable. I bought the phone from Nokia as they said that if i dont like it i could send it back and get a ful refund. I dont think i will be sending this phone back. To lock the keypad, you dont have to use the lock button on the top of the phone, i have just found out that can use the Left shortcut key and the * button. The GUI is very quick, the best i have seen in a nokia smartphone. The camera quality is OK, its better than my 6300 which is one of the main reasons why i bought this phone, as i am sick of producing rubbish photos on nights out. I have turned off the Navi wheel function as to be honest, it was annoying. Hopefully i will get the most out of the battery. I have turned off UMTS and only using GSM, turned off WIFI feature as it will not connect to my hidden network, turned the lights out and power save to the most eco friendly settings and turned down the brightness of the screen. I was very supprised how light the phone is. Im sure my 6300 is heavier. You can download themes for this phone from zedge.net. The only down side is there isnt a stop watch application.
