After a few months research and reading lots of reviews I made the decision to purchase the HTC Touch HD.

Many friends own the iPhone and I cant help but compare it to that... I'd say they're pretty much equal.

Its been 1 month now since buyin the phone, moving from a SE K850i and this being my first smartphone, it took a bit of getting used to... but not as long as I expected!

Features are outstanding, very easy to navigate and plenty of additional software you can add on to it already with lots more to come... the difference being, iPhone you download it direct from their app store either free or paid... HTC you have to connect to your computer and download it onto the SD card.

It offers everything the iPhone has minus their operating system , instead you get Windows Mobile 6 which isnt too bad!

I now use my phone for a few addictive games, tomtom Sat Nav, emails and internet browsing is very good, albeit, slower than using a mouse. I also watch DivX movies and have downloaded an application to watch TV... and its now BBC iPlayer compatible.

It connects to my Home Wireless without problems.

Tetxing is good, it shows the conversation in text form each time adding your reply and theirs.

Phone clarity is good and the speaker phone is clear.

Cons:

1. No flash on camera, shame.
2. Can freeze every now and then for 3-5 secs (apparently htc will fix this?)
3. Size, it fit in your pocket, but it is alittle on the big size, pretty much the same as the iPhone.
4. Battery... about 2 days with regular usage.
5. Unless I'm missing something... you cant switch the damn alarm off until the tune finishes itself!!! annoying!
6. Sometimes I can answer the phone before I've even got it out of my pocket, not sure why at this point in time.

If you're like me, not too knowledgable about technology, but love gadgets and want a phone that offers the above (plus more) then I would highly recommend.

Ummm excellent yet frustrating at times

The phone is amazing in the sense it feels good, looks sexy, features are incredible, the internet is terrific to use, youtube is wicked, the memory can handle 16gb although I am using 8gb. The camera is wicked as long as there's good lighting...

The phone can get frustrating as it can be delayed by a few milliseconds at times, when u r in rush u may find it hard to text, u will hit buttons accidentally no matter how used to the phone u get and it will require turning off and turning back on (Soft reset) at times and I have had to do a hard reset which is basically like formatting your computer except all the memory is in the micro sd card so u dont loose any data other than what is on the phone like programs, a few pics, ring tunes and stuff...

I have had the phone a month almost now and even though I do get frustrated at times I still love the phone and I look at the pros rather than the cons as it is a wonderful phone to use, attracts attention not that I use my phone to attract it, the internet is wonderful, Google maps and the gps is wicked although it can lag occasionally....

I recommend this phone to people who like touch phones with a lot of features and are willing to put up with the frustrations that come with touch phones....

 Beats the iphone hands down

Was waiting for a windows phone with the style of an iphone and something that has compatibility with office and Outlook. Having used an imate jam before, this was a natural step up. There are a few niggles, but nothing that can't be fixed by free downloadable applications. Wanna do this, well there's an app for that and you don't need to fund a monopoly. Screen is fantastic, web browsing is a dream, a real option to getting the laptop out as it's a snap to connect to a wifi router and has a great screen resolution.

 Overall a great versatile handset.

I just got my new HTC Touch HD phone a few days ago. It has replaced my old SPV M700 (HTC) with Windows Mobile 5 handset. I considered the HTC Diamond but disregarded this due to the slow TouchFLO 3D at the time (has now been updated) however battery life (900 mAh) is still bad. I also considered the iPhone 3G and the Blackberry Storm. The iPhone is fabulous, but not for editing documents etc., plus the screen resolution of the HD is near double. The Storm has a "click" screen which I'm not sure about.
First thing you notice when you take the phone out of its box it how solid and well built it feels. Also striking is the lack of the usual array of "HTC" style buttons. This gives the phone a very minimalistic and elegant look. After starting it up you are greeted with the home screen of the flo menu. This now responds much faster, looks stunning and is a real asset. However the flo does not cover all the phone's functionality and it soon reveals the WM 6.1 prof. underneath. Then navigating the menus using your finger becomes very tricky. Even the fantastically high screen resolution (480x800) can't make up for this. The HD does come with a stylus (held in by a magnet) which you'll need for those occasions. The virtual keyboard is good and responsive but I find it takes some time to get use to. To sync the phone with my PC with Vista was very easy with active sync. It works very well with MS Office 2007 and Media player. I took it to the gym and found the HD works very well as an MP3 player. You can even adjust the volume with the button at the side of the phone without turning the phone back on. The sound quality is very, very good. Importing/converting vids and photos is a doddle with the media player. However I imported a video podcast and the software did not make use of the g-sensor to view landscape, why? Playback is smooth and seems good. Web browsing is a joy with the high resolution screen and Opera 9.5 preinstalled (this does make use of the g-sensor).
I contacted HTC customer service and found them very helpful. If you go to the HTC website you can download the latest fixes for the phone.

Good:
TouchFLO 3D now fast and very useful
Build quality
Battery life
Great preloaded programs e.g. MS mobile office
Very good MP3 player and video playback with fantastic sound quality
Very slim and portable
HTC customer service seems fine
Very good compatibility with MS Vista
Looks stunning
5 mega pix camera

Bad:
Windows Mobile rears its ugly head
Fiddly small buttons in MS windows mobile
G-sensor does not support many prog.
Only digital zoom and no flash

Overall a great handset.
