Overall an excelent phone. If you know the S60 menu system you will have noproblem with this. It's mostly responsive. The transisitions are quick. The music qualiy is superb through the tiny speakers I don't know how they do it. Not much software about but it's increasing day by day.

It will play movies but in mp4 only not tried converting one yet but have seen other reviews. DIVX player and core player do not support this device yet.

There is also no support for sat nav software yet like TomTom or Copilot etc but I'm sure it will come. If you really neeed it, it comes with Nokia Maps but gets expensive, chepest is £6.99 for 60 days use. Not tried it yet but may consider it if there is no alternative.

Ther are many good and lenghty reviews around if you search for them.

I did my research for 2 weeks before I ordered one from Nokia, then I was offered one for free! by a friend who knows people at Nokia and I cancelled my order, I would have bought it anyway so well chuffed and £249 better off.

     No problems here

I have had this phone since about a month after it came out, i have used both Orange and O2 sims and they work fine. I've had it freeze twice on me and that was on the music player and to be fair it was playing songs that weren't legitmate and poor quality even on my laptop. The WiFi is very quick in comparison to a few other WiFi enabled phones i've used, and is reliable (as i've used it pretty much everyday with Belkin and BT Home hubs).
The touch screen is fantastic, very responsive and the touch screen QWERTY is brilliant (even with my little sausage fingers).
The supplied case is adequate, however i still purchased screen protectors. The supplied headphones are perfect for freebies, the detatchable remote (also with a 3.5mm jack) is a brillaint idea, meaning that i can control my music with my own headphones : ) .
However, there are one or two undesirable features, first of is the camera, whilst 3.1 mp was a step up from my previous 2mp phone, i find the quality was superior on my previous phone (a sony ericsson). I find the pictures to be fuzzy and the video's are grainy. Secondly is the speed of the menu system, whilst quicker than previous Nokia OS' it still drags it's heels, even when only one app is running.
And finally is the lack of specific accessories to this model, i had read on many forums that there would be a music stand and a docking station specifically made for this phone and what a let down that was...there's nothing.
So in conclusion to +ve's and -ve's, i've given it 4 stars, not a bad first touch screen from the mobile giants at Nokia. Ohh and if you're looking at this instead of an iPhone, then only buy this if you're not concerned about buying silly applications that are useless.

Thanks for reading, hope this helped : )

     Better than i hoped

I bought this phone from Play a few days again. cheapest place around. Phone arrived within 2 days from order so very happy with that as some of my other items from play seem to take 5-6 days and in the past play used to be better with dispatch and deliverys. I have been using play for around 4 years.
Anyway the phone comes with everything you would get if you bought from Nokia direct. Has the 8GB mem stick already inside the phone. Come with plectrum , 2 stylus , headphones , headphone control , very nice carry case , screen protector already on the phone , installation cd and manuals , and stand aswell.
So onto the phone. I is easy to put the sim inside as its done from the side of the phone but to take it out you have to take the battery off and slide it out. so bit weird but easy for putting it in at least. Phone is lighter and smaller than i first thought. Fits really well in hand and pocket and feels nice to. I did the phone firmware update straight away to smooth out any initial problems. I was going to give it 5 stars but here are the things i dont like about it.
So far the camera hasnt been great for me. Grainy photos mostly . and slow to open the photo gallery and transfer files with bluetooth. seems to be lag on jus this particular feature. the phone also freezes maybe 1-2 a day for 5 seconds or so which is annoying but again im hoping a future update will address this .will perhaps ring nokia on this. Also the music is not as loud as i would have liked thru the headphones. Only other thing i dont like is no menu button on the touch screen . onlya pyshical one so u have to press this for menu and touchscreen for everythin else. seems daft to me. These are my onl niggles with the phone. So dont take me wrong i really really like this phone. The phone touchscreen is very responsive and the features and customnization very good. Great screen , great for internet and videos. great music player. brilliant maps and good gps signal too. Lack of applications just now but that should change. Overall this has great potential and very soon with some more updates and apps for it it will be great. Not an iphone beater. Different type of phone but very useable, likeable and friendly and feels and looks great. Plus for £240 well worth a look. I bought this as for the money its the best around until the next generation like N97 and perhaps the next iphone once they sort the size and camera and battery life out. Hope this review helps someone to make there mind up. Overall its great phone and worth buying for sure.

     It's decent!

For Nokias 1st touch screen mobile, its not bad at all. However there is room for loads of improvement.

    The Good -

    - Comes with an 8GB Micro SD Card for all your music.
    - Contacts bar on your main background for 4 of your favorite contacts.
    - A proximity sensor that turns the screen off when you make calls so your cheek doesn't press any buttons
    - A standard 3.5mm headphone jack for you to plug your normal headphones into to listen to the music.
    - Create and customize your own themes and profiles.
    - Good selection of small applications (voice recorder, calender, calculator, converter etc).
    - Works well as an MP3 player once you get all your music organised.
    - Very impressed with the radio and the phones loudspeaker ability. Using two speakers on the back, its very loud!

    The Bad -

    - The Battery life. *sigh* Its TERRIBLE! I swear I lost one battery bar just by making a call. Surely the folks at Nokia knew they were making a phone that uses a lot of power (touch screen, mp3 player, Internet, radio, loud speaker etc etc) so why didnt they invest in a better battery

-The touch screen. If this phone is going to be your first touch screen device then you probably wont have any complaints. However, if you have an iTouch or have tried out the iPhone, you will be very disappointed. It is in no way near as responsive as the iPhone. I find myself pushing down on the screen to get what I want with the 5800, yet all it takes is a tap with the iPhone.

-The camera. This one doesn't bug me as I don't take any pictures or videos with my phone, but I can see how it would annoy some of you. The camera is capable...and nothing more. Not one thing stands out with it.

    - The music synchronization software provided. Its awful. Thankfully I found out you can just use good old Windows Media Player to sync all your tunes to it.

Overall - 4 Stars. It impresses but needs some big improvements to the battery and touch screen.

    Hope this helps!

     Great Attempt Nokia

After owning a N95 8GB, I upgraded to a Nokia 5800 Xpress Music handset. I have been anticipating a touch screen phone from Nokia for a long time now. I have never been interested in touch screen phones, until Nokia released their first (flagship) touch screen. First thing is first, the amount of accessories which comes with the phone; you will think you bought a high end device! It comes with two stylus pens, in case you lose one, a plectrum in case you don't want to use the stylus, a USB connectivity cable, a TV - Out cable, a hard carrying case, an 8GB memory card, a hands free (headphones) device and lastly, a stand for when you're watching something on the device. The phone software is somewhat to be worked on, which will hopefully be improved in their next touch screen phone. The outlook of the software however is desirable, with the colour schemes and transition effects when scrolling through the menus. Writing a text is quite easy; however you really do have to tap on the phone screen in order to make an impression, meaning I find myself using the stylus instead of my fingers to text, however with four different input methods, you will soon forgive the lack of sensitivity, of the touch screen. I was quite disappointed about the camera quality because I am used to 5MP, however the 3.2MP camera comes into its own when used in a lot of natural light, especially outdoors. I took a video with the phone and when played back it was almost like watching wide screen Blue ray quality on my phone. The stereo surround speakers on the handset are better in quality, loudness and precision than the N95 8GB, however unlike some other handsets, the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music is meant to be a music phone and yet it does not have dedicated music keys, which is really annoying because I do use my phone regularly for music and so I have to scroll through tedious menus in order to access music. The secondary camera on the phone allows video calls to be made and is of standard quality compared to other handsets. At the top of the handset they have a shortcut bar which slides down when you touch the shortcut key. This feature is useful when you want to access other features on your phone when already using your phone, similarly the menu button, when held down, displays every application you have open on the phone and enables you to access them at a touch of your fingertip. The sim card and memory card are kept in the side of the phone and covered by plastic covers which are integrated into the phone and therefore make the phone neat and tidy and more pleasant to look at. The phone lock button or should I say switch is located on the middle of the phone on the right side and is at the right place when you are holding the phone in either hand and need to unlock or lock the phone, making it ergonomically sound. Nokia have placed all the connectivity options at the top of the phone, at first I found this cluttered, but soon got used to it. Also available on the phone are preinstalled shortcuts allowing you to access BBC iPlayer, Facebook, MySpace, and Real Player at the touch of a button. This is a great phone, if you like to use your phone for entertainment and communication. Using the internet on this phone is easy and enjoyable because of the screen size and clarity, you can't beat that 16 million colour screen! The only thing wrong with this phone is the processing power; I think it would operate better and quicker if it had some more processing power. I think this is a great attempt at a touch screen phone for Nokia, however I would rather stick to my higher end phones, they perform a lot better and they deliver what you expect from them. Did I hear someone say N97?
