Overall an excelent phone. If you know the S60 menu system you will have noproblem with this. It's mostly responsive. The transisitions are quick. The music qualiy is superb through the tiny speakers I don't know how they do it. Not much software about but it's increasing day by day.
It will play movies but in mp4 only not tried converting one yet but have seen other reviews. DIVX player and core player do not support this device yet.
There is also no support for sat nav software yet like TomTom or Copilot etc but I'm sure it will come. If you really neeed it, it comes with Nokia Maps but gets expensive, chepest is £6.99 for 60 days use. Not tried it yet but may consider it if there is no alternative.
Ther are many good and lenghty reviews around if you search for them.
I did my research for 2 weeks before I ordered one from Nokia, then I was offered one for free! by a friend who knows people at Nokia and I cancelled my order, I would have bought it anyway so well chuffed and £249 better off.
I bought this phone from Play a few days again. cheapest place around. Phone arrived within 2 days from order so very happy with that as some of my other items from play seem to take 5-6 days and in the past play used to be better with dispatch and deliverys. I have been using play for around 4 years.
Anyway the phone comes with everything you would get if you bought from Nokia direct. Has the 8GB mem stick already inside the phone. Come with plectrum , 2 stylus , headphones , headphone control , very nice carry case , screen protector already on the phone , installation cd and manuals , and stand aswell.
So onto the phone. I is easy to put the sim inside as its done from the side of the phone but to take it out you have to take the battery off and slide it out. so bit weird but easy for putting it in at least. Phone is lighter and smaller than i first thought. Fits really well in hand and pocket and feels nice to. I did the phone firmware update straight away to smooth out any initial problems. I was going to give it 5 stars but here are the things i dont like about it.
So far the camera hasnt been great for me. Grainy photos mostly . and slow to open the photo gallery and transfer files with bluetooth. seems to be lag on jus this particular feature. the phone also freezes maybe 1-2 a day for 5 seconds or so which is annoying but again im hoping a future update will address this .will perhaps ring nokia on this. Also the music is not as loud as i would have liked thru the headphones. Only other thing i dont like is no menu button on the touch screen . onlya pyshical one so u have to press this for menu and touchscreen for everythin else. seems daft to me. These are my onl niggles with the phone. So dont take me wrong i really really like this phone. The phone touchscreen is very responsive and the features and customnization very good. Great screen , great for internet and videos. great music player. brilliant maps and good gps signal too. Lack of applications just now but that should change. Overall this has great potential and very soon with some more updates and apps for it it will be great. Not an iphone beater. Different type of phone but very useable, likeable and friendly and feels and looks great. Plus for £240 well worth a look. I bought this as for the money its the best around until the next generation like N97 and perhaps the next iphone once they sort the size and camera and battery life out. Hope this review helps someone to make there mind up. Overall its great phone and worth buying for sure.
I have had this phone since about a month after it came out, i have used both Orange and O2 sims and they work fine. I've had it freeze twice on me and that was on the music player and to be fair it was playing songs that weren't legitmate and poor quality even on my laptop. The WiFi is very quick in comparison to a few other WiFi enabled phones i've used, and is reliable (as i've used it pretty much everyday with Belkin and BT Home hubs).
The touch screen is fantastic, very responsive and the touch screen QWERTY is brilliant (even with my little sausage fingers).
The supplied case is adequate, however i still purchased screen protectors. The supplied headphones are perfect for freebies, the detatchable remote (also with a 3.5mm jack) is a brillaint idea, meaning that i can control my music with my own headphones : ) .
However, there are one or two undesirable features, first of is the camera, whilst 3.1 mp was a step up from my previous 2mp phone, i find the quality was superior on my previous phone (a sony ericsson). I find the pictures to be fuzzy and the video's are grainy. Secondly is the speed of the menu system, whilst quicker than previous Nokia OS' it still drags it's heels, even when only one app is running.
And finally is the lack of specific accessories to this model, i had read on many forums that there would be a music stand and a docking station specifically made for this phone and what a let down that was...there's nothing.
So in conclusion to +ve's and -ve's, i've given it 4 stars, not a bad first touch screen from the mobile giants at Nokia. Ohh and if you're looking at this instead of an iPhone, then only buy this if you're not concerned about buying silly applications that are useless.
Thanks for reading, hope this helped : )
Whether Nokia have improved the screen from early reviews or they just exaggerated its deficiencies and were nitpicking I don't know, but what I do know is that the screen is perfect for me and I am able, and prefer in fact, to use the mini qwerty with my thumbnail without a single fault. It ignores the slight pressure from the pad of my thumb so resistive, rather than iphone's capacitive, screen suits me to the ground. It has a larger qwerty and handwriting recognition as well, but the mini is the best for me and the handwriting is just annoying as it doesn't recognise cursive as far as I know.
The sound is truly excellent once you tweak the graphic equalizer (their default setting is almost perfect but voices sound a little echoey and hollow) and when the prices drop further on 16GB micro SD's I will be able to keep my entire collection of music tucked in its case.
Menu's are not as slick as I have seen on the iphone and the help from the manual is terrible.
See proper reviews on the web for features, but suffice it to say they are many and excellent.
The 2 year warranty mentioned by the other reviewer is on a leaflet in the box and does not require registration from what I can see. I am not surprised it may have been missing as mine came without four items that the web says should be there
3.5mm TV out cable CA-75U
spare stylus
foldable stand
flexible case
PLAY.com will not send out the missing items - they want me to return the whole phone and they will then send out a new one. Crazy!
I must say it really puts me off buying over the net even from reputable stores. Ultimately it doesn't make sense to send a now used phone back and replace with a new one leaving me without a phone for a week or two - perhaps again and again if there are problems with the replacements such as faults or other stuff missing.
Anyway, I wanted a phone that could release me from carrying around a separate MP3/4 player and I took a long time deciding - I am very happy with my choice. I hope this helps with your decision.
I purchased this phone from play a couple of days ago and i cant put it down its the best phone i've ever had. I always wanted a touch screen phone and was very tempted to buy the Samsung M800 but after seeing this advertised in the Batman: Dark Knight film i had to buy it and im so glad i did. Its like owning a iphone but a better make and a better camera. The phone comes with a 8gb memory card card so far i have about 114 tracks 12 videos & 43 pictures on the phone and i have just under 6gbs left. I was worried that i wouldnt be able to text on a touch screen but after getting the hang of it, its really easy. A top phone at a quality price buy 2day.
