This card has a bit of a mixed review. So I decided to do a benchmark test. And here are the results:
Largest test file 500MB
Sequential Read : 9.569 MB/s
Sequential Write : 4.102 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 9.563 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 0.647 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 1.180 MB/s [ 288.1 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 0.006 MB/s [ 1.4 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 1.184 MB/s [ 289.1 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 0.007 MB/s [ 1.8 IOPS]
Yes, this card is in fact technically class 4. If you are transfering files from 0.5MB+ then you should get best performances. The downside is when you start transfering smaller files, read and write speeds go down(this is to be expected with all media storage) but this card under performes in this area, my class 2 cards perform slightly faster here.
In conclusion, if you're gonna use it for music and small videos then yes, this is a very good card.
If you plan on transfering 1000's of tiny files e.g. cache files, small text documents etc then be prepared for slight performance issues.
The cheapest Sandisk 16gb microsd card I could find was £60, but most were more expensive. I had also read that the Sandisk 16gb memory card has some problems with data corruption on the Nokia 5800xm. The play.com 16gb card has no such problem.
This memory card is a must buy for any media fanatic like me!
This is a serious bargain! If you were having doubts about buying this, don't. I bought this for use with my Galaxy S, and it works flawlessly. Note that the Class 2 rating has nothing to do with read speeds, and watching HD movies and listening to music off this SD card works fine - this is the main reason I bought this. Even copying data to the SD card (I had a USB Micro SD card reader available) was pretty quick and painless, but you're obviously not guaranteed copying speeds as fast as a class 8 SD card for example. Still, I wasn't waiting around for hours waiting for my data to copy.
If you're thinking of buying this, definitely do.
bought this for me sony ericsson x10 and it works fine have filled it up with 10gb and it works fine best of off it has japan writed on it which must be a good thing
Not the fastest card on the planet, so it takes a while to fill up. But as its designed for mobile devices speed isn't such an issue when away from the computer. Works well in my PSP with an adapter too.
I've also had two of the 8GB versions for longer, which have been absolutely fine.
By far the cheapest around so I would not hesistate to recommend.
