 Samsung B2100

Just received my B2100 phone... 1st impressions excellent, takes an 8 gb micro memory card no problems, keypad is light / easy to use, good bright screen, easy fast navigation around menu, really good music player for a so called basic phone, really happy with the design not big / bulky, torch is no joke really bright, great product for out and about, peace of mind for clumsy heavy handed people like me who keep breaking phones.

 Quite tough

This is my second tough phone. Previously owned the Samsung B2700 but unfortunately lost it and went for the cheaper option second time around. (Bear in mind: My plan for to own an 'indestructible' phone wasn't fool proof after all...)

The interface is much like any other (non-smart-phone) Samsung and easy enough to get used to.
Battery life is good, will last about 3 days without charge, much better than any smart phone.
Great for listening to music in the shower, just load your favorite songs onto the microSD.

Pretty sturdy but managed to crack the screen whilst skiing (was in pocket and fell on side - not too bad a fall either), a little disappointing. Phone is still working but quite annoying now when reading texts etc... Still seems waterproof despite crack as there's a plastic layer on top of the glass but now there's always that doubt.

Torch is very useful. Also some aspects of this phone are better than its successor, the B2700 (battery door stays put, light can be turned off when keypad has automatically locked) but then again some aren't (B2100 has no standard mini usb, modest limit of saved texts (300), no 3.5mm jack for headphones).

In summary: quite tough, but not at all 'indestructible'. With the limits to texts that can be saved may be better to buy and replace phones like the GT-E1080i (about 15 quid or less) as they expire, if you don't mind not having a music player - the only significant difference, other than durability.

A sturdy looking phone but not a very intuitive phone

We have only used the phone for a few days now.

The phone is quite sturdy looking. I gguess only time will tell how sturdy it is. We bought thids as my partner works with horses so quite often drops her phone. normal phones did reasonably well but eventually had one drop too many.

The phone appears to have quite a few features and the audio is quite loud on the phone, which is good.

There is a big downside though. that is the menu system is the least intuitive menu system I have ever used on a mobile phone. I have used many phones over the years, even before they had little icons for menus. THis phone is by far the least intuitive.

You start looking for things like Bluetooth settings in the "Settings" menu. Eventually you find it in the applications menu. There are quite a few examples I could give of things we have come across after only a few days using the phone. Suffice to say that if you stick at it I'm sure you will find what you are looking for and once you have it will be fine. However, on pretty much of all the recent phones I have owned you could pretty much guess where certain options were to be found., Not on this phone.

We have had other phones of a similar price but not as sturdy. these have had similar styles of menu but the features and settings were all in a much more logical place so it''s not the fact it is not an up to date smartphphone. Just that the features and settings don't appear where you think they would. Also, the T9 messaging is not as easy to use as previous phones. Rather than displaying a list of possible options for you to scroll trough and select the best option it displays its best guess then you have to press a key to display the next option and so on and so forth until you hit what you want. I'd rather just use the old method as it is likely to be quicker than using this version of T9.

So in summary it is a pretty sutrdy looking phone with a reasonable amount of features. It is not the most intuitive or easy to find your way around but once you have it works.

Would I but another? If there were no other sturdy phone options, possibly. If there were other sutrdy phone options, even with less features I'd certainly consider it if they were more intuitive to use.
