This has to be the most different, but still great, Eminem album I have ever heard. I had been waiting ages for this album and when the 21st June came, I was very happy indeed.
My most favourite tracks from Recovery are as follows:
1. Cold Wind Blows (a classic style Eminem song which is a great starter for the album)
4. Won't Back Down (featuring Pink) a nice hard rap rock song.
6. Going Through Changes (with samples from the Ozzy Osbourne song, Changes)
7. Not Afraid (amazing song which also has an amazing video)
9. No Love (featuring Lil Wayne) what a song, Eminem's verse is insane, this is the standout track for me.
12. 25 to Life (with acoustic guitars and singing)
15. Love the Way You Lie (featuring the beautiful Rihanna, a love song with the video coming soon)
There are also two other excellent bonus songs which are worth a listen and are also available for purchase, these are:
- Ridaz
- Session One (featuring newly signed Shady Records hip hop supergroup, Slaughterhouse)
Production on the album does not disappoint either, even though Dr. Dre only coughed up one song for the album. Production comes from:
- Just Blaze
- DJ Khalil
- Mr. Porter (Eminem's lifelong pal from D12)
- Supa Dups
- Emile (who has also worked with Obie Trice several times)
- Boi-1da (known to many as Canadian rapper Drake's producer)
- Jim Jonsin (he's done several smashes for The Game, Pitbull, etc)
- Script Shepherd
- Alex da Kid (who works with B.o.B. quite alot)
- Havoc (one half of New York rap duo, Mobb Deep)
- Dr. Dre (who is on hand once again to oversee the album as executive producer)
- And of course, Eminem himself (who supplies additional co-production for the album)
Overall, this album is an absolute delight to listen to and, although quite a different sound for Em, is in fact one of his best, and very emotionally driven in some places, with a nice light dusting of humour to balance it all out, with deep, meaningful lyrics and rhymes which will make you want to listen to it time after time. What can I say, the result is pure magic.
Eminem is a true talent who has never disappointed me with his work and I don't think he ever will.
Also, a huge shout out to Play.com for not only getting the album delivered on time, but for also being the greatest online retailer of all time.
