This is where the good Genesis came from

Steve Hacket's understated guitar almost masks the fact that he can play beautifully.
To put Steve Hacket's first album in perspective, it wasn't until hearing this solo effort that I realised that the more inventive and surreal influences in Genesis's music did not just come from Peter Gabriel.
Listen to this, then go and listen to some pre-Then there Were Three Genesis albums.
Despite their massive success after he left them I bet if the other three were completely honest they would say that they were never as inventive, never sounded as good and every tune they came up with after SH left lacked the ability to make those little hairs at the back of the neck stand up.
This album shows what they were missing as a band when he left.
It's not the best album ever, but I defy you to not enjoy it.
