Another solid entry in the Clutch back catalogue - perhaps their 5th best to date (out of 9, 10 if you include the rareties album 'Slow Hole to China'). This is no criticism though, as the top 4 albums are absolute stone cold classics.
Clutch continue down the blues rock road, previously displayed on From Beale Street to Oblivion. As always, the riffs and grooves are huge. The incredible musicianship can be compared to Led Zeppelin at their tightest; each component essential to the overall sound. At the forefront is Neil Fallon, with his amazing lyrics and booming voice. Highlights include the single 50,000 Unstoppable Watts, Abraham Lincoln (why wasn't history at school this interesting?!) and Minotaur.
If you are already a Clutch fan, you will lap it up. If you have heard the name before but never been sure, Strange Cousins is the perfect introduction to one of the world's greatest rock bands.
I love this hard rocking album from my new favourite band. I has everything I need in a rock and roll album. The whole thing make me want to drive fast and drink too much whisky. Brilliant all the way through.
I don't think I'm ever going to stop listening to this rock monster!
my favourite new band.just really got into clutch the last few months,i know i know wat av ive been at...
but this is a real catchy bluesy, stoner rock album.i know most people prefer their earlier albums but im loving this & robot hive more so.
neil fallon is a vocal genius
awesome album
Clutch have been around and evolving for a long time.
Hopefully this album will break them to many new fans.
Best way to describe this album is 'tight but loose'.
Production is great and really showcases the style and feel of a blues / rock band doing their thing in an old school way. Songs have space: they are sparse, plenty of room for the instruments to breathe. (Sounds pretentious, but it really is a great feel :)
It feels like the kind of thing that the black crowes / black stone cherry / zack wylde should have done ages ago, kind of a 'monster magnet' meets a Zep on stage warm up.
Tight but loose.
Don't get me wrong, Clutch don't copy, they are as original as it gets, just keeping their roots on display I suppose.
Love the songs, all with great melodies from all the instruments, each given space to contribute to the sound.
Just feels like they really knew what they were doing and really enjoyed doing it!
Only minor criticism would be the guitar sound can be a bit thin in places.
I like where Clutch have got to on their journey and hope they stay here for a couple of albums.
