  • 'Alright Still' is the debut album from comedian Keith Allen's daughter Lily Allen. Taking inspiration from her London surroundings and the music collection of her parents, Allen delivers a mix of ska, punk, hip-hop and rock with a hefty dose of pop. The album includes the extremely limited 7" single 'LDN' as well as 'Smile'.

Smile! It's a great album to listen to

Lily Allen is the type of pop star you either love or hate. On the one hand she seems to have few redeeming features as a singer, her voice, while slightly destinctive, is hardly the strongest and she doesn't seem to have a kind word for too many of her peers and contempories. Yet one listen to this album and you'll be whistling the tunes on it for months to come. Most people will know her huge number one hit 'Smile' and it still stands as one of the best songs on the album, along with LDN and Alfie.
Most of the songs seem to have a vindictive tone when it comes to the lyrics, which are surprisingly witty and sometimes genuinely funny, which offset the sugar-coated sounds all around them.
Often compared to Mike Skinners, The Streets, the resemblance musically, is pretty obvious although Lily is slightly more poppy and is obviously trying to appeal to a slightly more teen audience, she's managed to make an album which has much wider appeal than even she probably thought it would.
At first glance it may not be an album that will appeal to everyone, but give it a chance and you may just find yourself pleasantly surprised. I know I did.

 Enjoyable

Lily Allen, the Myspace phenomenon, has made an album for the Myspace generation. Sweet, funny and at times smart lyrics accompanied by catchy melodies is what this album is all about.
She captures the essence of many day-to-day situation in her lyrics and that makes songs like "Alfie" very enjoyable. The reason I give this a 3/5 is that it doesn't offer the longevity I hoped. It doesn't mean it's a bad album. Just that the songs loses their appeal after a while.
But for 4.99 I would highly recommend it.

 Amazing, still

I must admit, Lily Allen wasn't my type of music. But after listening to a couple of tracks I changed my mind. Great tunes to suit every mood you are in. Brilliant vocals and great lyrics. Lily wins over Cheryl Cole any day!

 this is the best
