Finally, Warner Brothers have released many of the tracks which made Dollar one of the best duos of the 1980s. Mirror, Mirror, Videoteque and the previously unreleased on CD, Hand Held In Black And White, are all here and Trevor Horn's shimmering production values remain resplendent. The two albums from which many of these tracks are lifted, The Paris Collection, and what was thought to be Dollar's best work, The Dollar Album, are yet to be released on CD, which is amazing considering the amount of second-rate romps through the 80s that hit record store shelves. It is easy with the passing of time to forget just how popular Dollar were and what made them so special. This is everyone's chance to remember.
This has to be the best CD in my collection, featuring some of the finest pop songs of the 1980's.
All the big hits are here, the fantasticly sublime Videotheque which for me is the highlight of this fantastic collection. How this song only peaked at number 17 in the summer of '82 is beyond comprehension!
Whilst admiring the fantastic vocals and breathtaking production of Mirror Mirror, Give me back my heart and Hand held in black and white there are some other gems on this collection.
Most notable is The second time around, which I gather was going to be Dollars final release from the big selling 'Dollar album' this song has stood the test of time and interestingly the great production was by Dollar themselves. The catchy poppy Two hearts (which was written by Dollar for the Yamaha music contest) is finally included on CD and is noted for being written in about 20 minutes!
Pink and blue is another hauntingly beautiful song which is included and not forgetting the inclusion of songs from the 1980 album 'The Paris collection' - standouts being Young love and Radio, more rocky than standard Dollar pop but well worthy of inclusion.
Finally, Give me some kinda magic is included, not once but twice, the latter being a clever 2006 Extended remix which is not only very clever but also incredibly effective.
To sum up, this is a must have for all pop purists, the songs are an absoloute pleasure to listen to over and over again, as I am currently doing now!
Pure heaven.
This is a good album but unfortunately if you want all the dollar singles then you have to buy a second album as the other greatest hits released by sony has several singles this one doesn't e.g. 'Shooting star' and the fantastic, 'who were you with in the moonlight'. Still this album is worth getting for 'hand held in black and white'. Having said all that there is another 'greatest hits" relaesed on the pop masters series which has arguably the best from both albums, it's called 'give me back my heart'. I hope this is useful
