I First saw these a few years back before their album release at Lounge on the farm on my friends recommendation. I walked into the tent and heard a sound.. looked at the stage and had to search for the 4 peice band that were tucked up to one side literally not moving.. an huge empty stage and they were just standing in the corner. From what i heard, their music ,to me, matched their lack of movement and i found it dull. I walked out.
It wasnt until a few months later after putting up with my friends raving about them and scrambling to buy their rare X t shirts that i decided to buy a copy of their album but only because it was 4 pound. I didnt stop listening to it for about 3 months! It didnt blow me away it just ahd me hooked. It was relaxing but not enough to ever bore you! Its well worth a listen! and is still different from anything else ive heard out there at the moment.

  Perfect

Considering how old The xx looks they are well beyond their years as far as the depth of feeling that their lyrics provoke. I love going to sleep to this album....but its fatal trying to wake up to it....it just makes me so relaxed. I, quite fussy at committing any time to new bands, but this Album is just fantastic.

  Overhyped.

While you cannot question the musicians ability to play to a great standard the XX bring nothing new to the table. Previous efforts such as this have been played and produced in a much better manner such as The Cure, My Bloody Valentine and in some cases New Order. Tracks such as 'Islands' or 'VCR' show us that while the band show great songwriting there has been no real development to the style of Indie Rock since it's boom in the late 80's/early 90's.

Let's hope the xx bring something new to the table next album.

this is the kind of album you can listen to again and again. An album of brilliant music, and a band well worthy of the mercury prize this year. If you like the editors you'll love this.

Depserately wanted this album after it won the Mercury Awards - i already had purchased Islands and loved it, and i had also heard Crystalised and Intro and i thought, on these three songs, this album would be a masterpiece - and it sure is! Nothing else like this out there in the market right now, i just hope they do release another album because i want more from them! I love the XX!

I like this album. It has quality for the discerning listener. The hushed voices and the silences between notes really add to the mood.

The only slight flaws are that everytime I listen to it, I enjoy throughly but then two thirds of the way through everything gets too samey and it becomes more like background music. The voices I sometimes find ever so slightly pretentious at times as well. (but don't get me wrong on the whole they are fine). I also thought it might feature more electronics which might have added more variety to the last third of the album.

These are only minor criticisms as if it was late at night and I wanted to put music on to a discerning friend this would be getting an airing. Very moody.

Lastly - One of the songs sounds similar to 'Wicked Game' by 'Chris Isaak' which always runs through my mind when I hear. The packaging is also quality.

A gamble that pays off - again and again!

Listened to the track Crystalised a few times and really liked it. Thought I would go on a gamble and buy the album - I was not disappointed. The first track - Intro - is a really cool instrumental and got me hooked from the start. It's a beautiful album & very chilled. A little similar to snow patrol (only in the way it's a guy and girl singing) but way cooler. Never really heard of them before, but will be following closely.
One of the few albums I can listen to over and over again. Love it!
