Absolutely the best live band around in the early seventies, and believe it or not I saw them 3 weeks ago at the Ferry in Glasgow and they were every bit as good 40 years on. This album sums up the widely diverse forms of music Stray were and still are capable of in their formative years, see their neww album due out shortly. If you buy this album and like it I encourage you to go and see them live where ever possible, you won't be disappointed and will probably buy all the rest of their back catalogue
One of the best groups of the late 60's/70's circuit. Listing to this re-mastered release with the original line up of Del Bronham, Steve Gadd, Richie Cole & Gary Giles it's hard to understand how they didn't have much more success. These guys could really perform, live and in the studio. Always the support act and never the bride! Shame on you Transatlanic and Pye. Released when (to me) they were at their peak. Buy this and come back for more!
Fourth album by London rockers Stray saw them change direction and incorporate strings and brass with impressive results. This album when it was first released in 1973 sold enough copies fer the band to be awarded a gold disc, amazingly it failed to chart strange eh!
To the music it starts with a short intro and thunders into Come on Over a classic Stray song which many people compare to hearing Oasis with strings abeit 20 years before Oasis formed.Highlights include the brass laden Gambler, the brilliant rocker Pretty thing which reminds this listeners ears of Reward by Teardrop Explodes and Leave it down to us which is a fantastic blast of Rock 'n' Soul. The bonus track is Brand new day which was a single B side it is very quiet no guitars but a beautiful song very much in the vein of Fool on the Hill by the Beatles.
This record was a very brave move by a band who at the time had built a large and loyal following and whose audience expected another out and out rock record but it is a fine album in it's own right i love it because these are great songs.
