Mayer is massive in the states, superb but not known here. The system hasn't recognised him, bit like U.S. have not robbie willams. A lucky few have, be one of them. This is a mix of a few tracks each off 'room for squares' and 'heavier things' plus a few others. Check out 'city love' and the nine minute version of 'covered in rain' on line videos if you need any convincing. Mayer has now moved toward being a SUPERB bluesey guitarist, it has been said he is like this from trying to emulate hendrix & clapton (the latter he has shared a stage with). This is a more modern accessible blues-rock style. Buy as much back catalogue as you can afford, you will become hooked. Mayer did some of the songs at albert hall sept. 07 sounded absolutely brilliant, started in the dark with the rift from the track 'vultures' & 'gravity' from the later bit slower, CD/DVD 'continuum' This is a little background only to give you a taster I really cannot begin to describe how good the music is, get into it now.
