Special Features

  • Coldplay return with Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, an album that sees the band emerge from the success of 2005's 'X&Y' with the same hunger that has gained them global success ever since 2000's 'Parachutes'. Lead single 'Violet Hill' contains trade mark catchy piano hooks, along with a heavy guitar edge that emphasises the band's hunger. Chris Martin continues to shine as a songwriter and musician, while his bandmates provide the ground on which the music can come to life.

Very Brian Eno influenced album with more than a hint of Bowie's Low album to thank. I was looking forward to hearing this, having enjoyed the title track so much. A bit mediocre really beyond three or four tracks that are quite good. Stand out tracks Viva La Vida and Strawberry Swing.

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars An enjoyable album

This album had a lot to live up to seeing as X&Y is one of my personal favourites, and it doesn't disappoint. I do think you have to listen to it a few times to get used to the tracks, and then you'll find it an enjoyable album to listen too. It is typical Coldplay music which some may find a bit same-y, but I think it's great and the instrumental 'Life in Technicolor' is a great opening track.
