  • Sophomore album from Leeds indie band who shot to fame with their three-million-selling 2005 debut 'Employment'. Continuing to wear their classic British pop influences (Blur, Smiths, Madness, Dexys) on their sleeves, they have turned in another rollicking guitar record, although this time the lyrical tone is more introspective and socially aware. Includes the single 'Ruby'.

Half a notch down from Employment, but still a good album. Perhaps not as consistent as their previous effort, this still has enough good songs to warrant a purchase. Stand out track is the catchy 'I Can Do Without You'.

I'm going to write a short basic review, and repeat it a few times, just to be ironic. In my opinion that's all we can expect from the Kaiser Cheifs. Basic sounds, some mildly interesting melodies, and a hell of alot of repetition. Be it lyrically, structurally, and otherwise. Very Poor indeed.

This is unarguably THE best album I have bought in a long time, at first when it came out I was annoyed with everybody chanting "Ruby, Ruby, Ruby" and for this matter I didn't bother buying it, however once I heard "Loves Not A Competition (But I'm Winning)" and also now the new single "Heat Dies down", I really fell in love with these songs so I got the album and I must say god knows why I didn't bother buying this sooner.
The whole album from start to finish is absolutely brilliant and has a great mixture of songs from the fast heavier songs such as "Heat Dies Down", and "Thankyou Very Much", to the slower songs such as "Boxing Champ" and "Loves Not A Competition, (But Im Winning)", every song in this album has brilliant lyrics and there are some great sounds that you will really fall in love with.
Altogether this is a perfect album especially for driving, and I've only just noticed that the price has been dropped by another £1 which is just a fantastic deal for an album this good!

 Everything is Average Nowadays... indeed!!!

The much anticipated second album by Kaiser Chiefs is full of catchy pop tones (e.g. "Ruby") and energetic lyrics. Nevertheless, it becomes very boring time after time. The more you listen to it, the less you value it. Tracks that may keep your interest for a while are: "Heat Dies Down" (it seems so...), "Everything Is Average Nowadays" (like the rest of this album), "Retirement" (maybe a good idea for the band). So many symbolic titles...
Some slower moments like "Love's is not a competition" or "Try Your Best"are quite average and boring too.

To sum-up, this follow-up is not even close to "Employment" (5 stars). Maybe next time...

Fantastic, Absolutly Fantastic. Theres not a lot I can say really, there brilliant in the studio and brilliant live (I saw them at The Birmingham NIA in November). Nick Hodgson must be one of the greatest songwriters ever, he's certainly written 13 dreams here, and having heard two new songs at the concert "Never Miss A Beat" and "You Want History" I can't wait for album three so come on Ricky let's get it out, the best song on this album for me is "Thankyou Very Much"
