I'm a huge Brand New fan, and The Devil & God is my favourite album of all time, so when I first listened to this album I wasn't sure what to think. Brand New are well known for their ability to progress hugely as a band yet still sound like Brand New, and this album's no different. It's definitely a grower, it took me a few listens to get into it but once I did I couldn't stop listening to it. It's a haunting album that blends big heavy-hitting tracks with slower ones. For a loyal Brand New fan, they will either love or hate it no doubt as it's unexpected & unpredictable, but I think it's another great addition to an already legendary discography!
"Daisy" heralds yet another transition for Brand New's musical style, so if you buy this album looking for an updated "The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me" prepare to be disappointed. Whilst it does feature a pretty poor opening song ("Vices"), it's by and large a very good album indeed with several excellent additions to Brand New's repertoire. Of course, as with all media reviews, this is totally subjective, so go listen to "At the Bottom" on youtube and make your own decision!
I've always hated when people say "oh, it'll grow on you" but this album really does. At first when I heard it I was quite taken back and I thought I didn't like it, I mean, the first minute and a half of the album isn't even them (I won't give too much away). Then when the track does kick in it's a completely different Brand New to what you're used to.
Brand New have always impressed me with their progression from each album, always achieving a new sound. Daisy isn't too dissimilar from Devil and God, it's no Your Favourite Weapon to Deja change, but it still has a new feel to it.
Daisy is incredibly dark and interesting and definitely worth the 9 quid.
Brand New fans will be split between hating and loving this album, luckily I'm one of the ones who loves it.
