  • In gathering some of the biggest names in alternative rock, alongside a storming score from Alexandre Desplat, Twilight: New Moon - Original Soundtrack, the accompaniment to the second instalment of one of the biggest film franchises of recent years, was always going to be spectacular. After the unrivalled success of 2008's Twilight, together with its acclaimed soundtrack, the bar has been set high for the follow-up. Just as the original's world of fantasy, romance and stunning imagery was enriched by a stunning track list, Twilight: New Moon - Original Soundtrack follows suit with musical backing of the highest order.

With swirling guitars and building drums complimenting their trademark rock ideals, Death Cab For Cutie's 'Meet Me On The Equinox' is the ideal opening, building the dramatic effect but never sacrificing a strong melody in the process. Radiohead's Thom York contributes 'Hearing Damage', which is both eerie and sinister in equal measures, whilst a specially remixed version of 'I Belong To You' by Muse is an epic, swooning ballad fusing jazz and opera influences in the perfect serenade to the growing onscreen romance. American rock giants The Killers show their darker side with the dramatic 'A White Demon Love Song', before alternative legends Black Rebel Motorcycle Club offer a simpler approach with the guitar-led traditional rock 'n' roll of the excellent 'Done It All Wrong'. With their recent album, 'In This Light And On This Evening', Staffordshire quartet The Editors demonstrated a nod towards a synthetic sound, making them perfect for a soundtrack such as this. Their track 'No Sound But The Wind' offers a simple cinematic beauty, making it an instant highlight that effortlessly matches the dramatic grandeur of the movie itself. However, it's the man behind the scoring of the soundtrack, Alexandre Desplat, who steals the show as the album draws to a close with the perfect 'New Moon (The Meadow)' - a beautiful conclusion to a soundtrack of epic proportions.

If ever there was proof needed that soundtracks can stand as albums in their own right, Twilight: New Moon - Original Soundtrack is a fine example. Whilst fully complimenting the atmospheric changes of the motion picture, the 15 songs, from a broad range of popular artists, fluently combine to sound less like a compilation and more like a whole, individual piece of music. The film itself is destined for box-office and award ceremony greatness, but its soundtrack is every bit as much the winner.

I purchased the Twilight Soundtrack, and just had to get the New Moon one. The songs fit perfectly to the movie. My favourite songs so far have to be the Editors - No Sound But The Wind, and Lykke Li - Possibility (that was a hard decision)! Included in the album is a mini fold out poster for your wall! :) An added bonus! If you enjoyed the Twilight soundtrack, then you'll enjoy this one too. Go ahead purchase it ! :)

 Better than the twilight soundtrack!!
