surely Phil's most underrated work,and by far his best,even better than 'Face Value' although it doesn't have the commercial edge that album had with 'In The Air Tonight'.'Both Sides' is a much better all round effort,very consistent,with a much paired back,bleak but beautiful sound.Phil plays everything,and his vocals are superb.His barbed social commentary on tracks like 'Son's Of Our Fathers' is quite a revelation.when he sings 'our sons and daughters seem to be beyond our control' you forget that this album was recorded in 1993,it seems just as relevant in todays uncertain times.on the opener and first single 'Both Sides Of The Story' he sings about marital breakdown,and children contemplating a future without a parent,all quite powerful stuff for an artist constantly criticised for 'soppy love songs'i listen to this constantly,it still sends shivers down my spine,and although it lacked the killer single that he has had on other albums,it remains a classic.forget 'Face… more »
