- Play.com Review - 'Killing In The Name' single.
'Killing In The Name', the first single to be released from Rage Against The Machine's incredible 1992 self-titled debut, has once again caught the imaginations of the nation. A mesmerising blend of metal and rap, the storming 5-minute masterpiece finds the American quartet firing on all cylinders, reviving the spirit of The Clash and Public Enemy whilst remaining politically aware throughout. 17 years after its original release, fans of the band are campaigning for the download of the single to be this year's Christmas number one, the rivalry with the recent X-Factor winner for the top spot generating much media attention en route. With its undeniable blend of anger and intellect, 'Killing In The Name' could well be the perfect Christmas alternative for hard metal fans, whilst raising awareness of one of the most underrated bands in rock history along the way. bombtrack, killing in the name of, bullet in the head, ... all known hitsingles and full frontal socially critical songs with the impact of a tsunami. for the ones who were once young in the late eighties, Rage was an absolute must at every party: let the beast go. zack de la rocha and Co deliver a statement that had to be heard. it's a classic album that set some bounderies for a lot of other bands.
I got this on tape back in 92 and it was never off my walkman. Awesome album to work out to-but the lyrics are so effective too. De La Rocha is like a poet, throw in some quality bass lines, rippin guitar solos and the rest is history. This will go down in history as the best rock/rap album ever made. Still sounds just as good now 17yrs on!
this album does not lose its punch. ever. after 16 years, its still as angry, abrasive and thrashy as the day it was recorded. you need to have this album in your cd rack for it to be complete. the thing about this album, is that it kind of invented a new genre. it's not Rap, it's not Thrash Metal, it's not Jam Rock, it's just Rage Against the Machine. the other albums are good, but this is almost legendary.
You DON'T have this album? If that's the case, then there is something seriously wrong with you. One of the best albums of all time by one of the best bands of all time. A fantastic debut album, with lyrics and music that will reverberate for many years to come. Tom Morello's outstanding guitar skills shine through in every single track, both standing out from and complimenting one of the best drum and bass couplings there ever will be, and to say Zack de la Rocha could write a good song is an understatement.
And at the time of writing, it's only £5. Probably the best fiver you'll ever spend. Order it now, you won't regret it.
What more can I say.
Oh yea, buy 'Killing in the name' MP3 for Christmas No1. :)
