 A gamble but brilliant!!!!!

Like everyone as already said its completely different to oracular spectacular but different is good. I like the fact that they have gone and produced something completely diffirent, No enough bands in the world who has the bottle to do this. It's psychadelic, electronic and beautifully up lifting. You have it all, especially with "Siberian Breaks" which I think is a masterpiece. If you are fan of old vintage rock'n'roll i believe you will like this album.

 Awsome in a werid way!!

Well its nothing like there first album which was very mainstrem. This album is very werid and made for themselfs. So if you got a freind who is half dog and half human you should buy it. But really if your in to weridish music like Beck and She Mob it your type of music. If not don't buy it!!

 Hooked at first hearing

As someone who had not previously heard the first MGMT album I came to this album with no expectations unlike some of the other reviewers here who are clearly disappointed when they compare it to "Oracular Spectacular" All I can say is that I was instantly blown away by the first track "It's Working" with it's ascending scale intro, freaky chord changes and harmonies. Furthermore, the following songs, although each completely different from the other held my interest right up to the final track "Congratulations", which incidentally ends on a descending scale in direct contrast to the opener. The highlight for me is "Flash Delerium" which gradually builds over the course of the song to a wonderful climax then shudders to a halt. Best new album of the year so far by far.

 Well worth the buy

No boast intended but I was well into MGMT (Management) before they became big. I found out about them through AMG before Oracular Spectacular came out. Of course I was utterly blown away when the CD was released but didn't expect it to be such a hit despite all the catchy tunes: one doesn't necessarily lead to the other, take Yeasayer as a recent example. Several months later and it seemed almost everyone was into them. The first reviewer here is clearly disappointed: I think it really depends on your expectations and what other music you like listening to. To me there is a strong Secret Machines influence on Congratulations: MGMT seem to be doing what they like best which is to be free of an obvious song structure which has its origins in the Syd Barrett era, prog-rock etc. Anyway I feel that the first 5 tracks are strongest (Siberian Breaks goes on too long for me) and it really does need Brian Eno to liven things up again. I also found the last two tracks weak but perhaps I haven't listened to this enough yet. Not a classic but well worth buying. Four stars: but adding an extra one to balance the overly negative reviews that will appear given time.

 A Very Good Album.

I loved pretty much all of the tracks on Oracular Spectacular, but with this album I love about half of them and just skip the rest.

Flash Delirium, It's Working, Someone's Missing, I Found A Whistle & Congratulations are all great tracks. Siberian Breaks is a masterpiece. The rest I find to be dreary and far too repetitive.

It doesn't live up to Oracular Spectacular but it wasn't intended to.
