... but they don't all come wrapped in cellophane yeah and they don't always - seem to turn out right. This is both a reunion and a goodbye. A return to form after the disappointing 'Highway'. A much maligned album but one that I think is up there with the eponymous 'Free' and 'Tons of Sobs' as a top Free album. It represents a diversion from the earlier stuff with a lot of piano accompanying Kos's guitar and some additional tweaking in the studio but that compliments the songs well - and they're great songs - 'Guardian of the Universe' and 'Child' make one great pairing while 'Magic Ship' and 'Sail on' make another.
These are among the most inspirational and uplifting things Paul's written - or is it Andy Fraser's influence? Andy must be one of the most underrated contributors to the band and one of the best bass players in the country. Here again he provides a solid and lyric platform for them to weave their magic over. Kossof plays well here, unlike his rather self indulgent money raising solo efforts. It has a warm uplifting vibe. I'd recommend it to anyone.
