 Average? Awesome?

I have always loved Sade's music, so when I bought this I was hoping to give it an A for Awesome, but after a couple of listens it was more like A for Average!
BUT... after watching Sade in concert recently, and then listening to the album further, the more this album started to grow on me.
It starts well, drifts away a little in the middle but ends well. So, I would now give this album an A for Above Average!

 Fabulous!

In one sense I wish Sade would record more... but maybe it's because her music is so rare that it's so good.

She is back the Queen of Soul. One of the most anticipated album of the year. Sade has delivered a brilliant album

Doing what she does, BETTER THAN ANYONE.

Sade fans know that she does not release work that is anything other than the very best she has to give at any given time. This new release is no exception. She has stayed true to the style she has made her own and no one can do better. The production is flawless, smooth yet very hard and edgy especially on tracks like the PHENOMENAL 'Soldier of Love'. Lyrically heartfelt and vocally soul stirring this long awaited piece of Art sits perfectly alongside all her previous work. The songs are as ever about Love in all it's complex forms yet is never expressed in a 'Hallmark Card' kind of way. If you are looking for oversung, overproduced, made for the masses corporate so called 'music' this is NOT for you. Being a fan of Sade is a lifelong prospect, so you learn to really appreciate her presence in the music world. She has been making quality music for over 25 years and this CD shows A TRUE ARTIST doing what she was born to do.

 Sublime

With beats to melt your heart and soothe the weariest of souls, the lady with the immortal voice returns to deliver what is argumentally her best album yet. Lushness and understatement, balanced by lyrics of surprising transparency, and few signs of engagement with the rest of the pop world, not that this is needed in any way. Sade does what she has been doing for 25 years. Delivers with raw depth and heartfelt soul.

I personally think that Sade are and always will be amazing. (Please remember they are a group consisting of Sade as the vocalist and a couple others on the instruments, not just one solo artist!)

The beat on Soldier of Love is very different to the usual Sade sound but it works so well! My personal favourite has to be the emotionally charged The Safest Place.

Overall a fabulous album for anyone who enjoys soul, neo-soul, blues style genres with an extra kick of modernity and attitude.

 Restrained

True fans of Sade will, I think, be happy with this album as on the whole it delivers more of the same tried and tested formula. I had hoped for something less retrained, new, original and innovative, but I was to be disappointed.
