Beautiful, ballsy, talented, and original, it is hard not to love allison goldfrapp, and admire the chemistry she creates with the slightly less attractive will.
This is the follow up to "The Seventh Tree", which was flawlessly different and impressive.
Once again though Goldfrapp take a completely different angle on this.
Early Depeche Mode and Erasure feelings throughout, expertly crafted with Allison superb dreamy style of singing, she almost whispers the words, very sexy.
Simply put, the only disappointing thing about this cd is the length, only 9 tracks, but every one a classic, they really have raised the bar again here.
Less than a fiver, you really owe it to yourself to buy this modern day classic, that sticks in your brain for days after each playing, you will never tire of listening to this masterpiece.
Allison and Will are a credit to music in England. Another great Mute band.

 Spectacular

What an amazing 80's fest of goodies. The album is short and sweet and leaves you gagging for more rather than feeling they should have left out the filler tracks. Truly eighties in length when albums came in at just under 40 minutes. Rocket is an instant earworm and the there are hints of late ABBA on other tracks. Buy it now!

Usual quality from a quality pop duo!

Feel a little short changed with the length of the CD. However the quality is excellent - Rocket is just magical and love Believer. Both have a catchy feelgood vibe. Very much like Supernature with perhaps a bigger pop sound.

 Upbeat and positive.

In this time of global doom and gloom its nice to listen to an 'up beat' and positive album like this. Fair enough, gone (for now) are the moody swirling super ballads Goldfrapp are renowned for, but in are 9 feelgood and shameless pop songs, and what's wrong with that. Everyone's allowed to escape to an album like this now and again. I particularly love Rocket, and the title track Head First, which I can listen to endlessly on repeat. Feel a little bit sold short on there only being 9 tracks, and no B-sides on Rocket, but Im sure there's more juicy stuff in the pipeline....Good on you Alison & Co.

 A bit disappointing, really!

I bought it right away because I love Goldfrapp's Supernature and I thought it would be similar to it. How wrong was I! Gone are the driving glam sounds of that masterpiece... say hello to the '80! It's not a terrible album, a few tracks will be hit singles but as a whole it doesn't hold up well at all. It's certainly a "commercial" record designed to put Goldfrapp back in the charts but I don't think it will be well received by long time fans.

 a good album

goldfrapp's pop album, long time fans might miss the old sound, but this is a very good pop record, with many radio friendly tracks

Doesn't have the thrilling, original edge I was hoping for

After a run of fine albums, with 2003's Black Cherry particularly outstanding, there's more than little anticipation for the new Goldfrapp record.
Now on their fifth LP, Head First opens with a rip-off of Van Halen's "Jump" and this kind of sets the tone for the eight tracks that follow.
Though well executed, Head First feels slightly forced and never quite finds its own voice. While tracks such as "Hunt", "Shiny And Warm" and the title track all stand up as solid electronic dance tracks, they dont offer the exhilarating ride Goldfrapp tradionally provides.
There's no tracks here to compete with previous hits "Strict Machine", "Human" or my personal favourite "Ooh La La" from previous album Supernature.

This album is doesn't reflect the deep talents which made Will Gregory and Alison Goldfrapp famous in the first place, It's competent but in my opinion only going to be popular amongst mainstream music fans.

goldfrapp have been going for 10 years now and never disappoint and im sure this CD will be no different,so four stars only because i feel 9 songs is to little.
