This deserves to be in all the top album lists, but never is

This album is one of the first that I remember listening to when I was first getting into music. I was about 9 and my brother was listening to it. Before this time I could not get into the heavy rock sound but this grabbed me and pulled me in. Since that time I havn't looked back. This album is pivotal to all modern music in that the aggression and yet orchestration is both superb and at a balance with itself.

The tracks all have a mood that is easy to get into. From the rushings of battery to the smooth melodies of Orions bass solo break.

The album needs to be heard to be believed and then listened to again and again...

This was an amazing delivery! I ordered it 3 days ago and it has arrived already! Metallica are by far my favourite band and have been for over a decade. I had this on cassette, but needed to get the album as soon as I could. Any Metallica album could be described as amazing, but ...And Justice For All and Master of Puppets are my two favourite. For any metal/thrash lover, I recommend this and earlier Metallica albums.

 The Definitive Metal Album!

The album starts with an acoustic intro which gives you no indication of the brutal metal that is to come. Battery is just breakneck Metallica at their best. This is followed by possibly the greatest metal song of all time, Master of Puppets, 8 min of pure class. A change in pace leads to the unbelievably heavy Thing That Shuld Not Be closely followed by Welcome Home (Sanitarium) which is as close to a ballad that Metallica got in those days, a song about a mental institution! What was side 2 (before CD's) begins with the superb Disposable Heroes, again 8 min of brutal riffage. Leper Messiah is probably the weakest track on the album, but that shows it's overall class as this would be the highlight for many bands! Orion shows off the collective instrumental skills of the bands before rounding the album off with Damage Inc. possibly the fastest Metallica song ever recorded.

The class of this album is shown in the number of live favourites the band still play (I will never forget Disposable Heroes played at Milton Keynes in the 90's putting the supporting Megagdeth in their place!) on the last tour they played the album in it's entirety to celebrate 20 years since it's release.

This is without doubt the one metal album everyone must own let alone the one Metallica album. After this although Metallica still produced excellant albums the sound changed and pace slowed down. Never again have they produced such a consistant and brutally brilliant album.

Buy it and discover what real metal sounds like!

 Metal perfection

Fish need water. Cows need grass. Bees need flowers. Metal fans need this album. If you're into any type of metal at all and you're reading this review, clicking the 'buy' button will be one of the greatest things you'll ever do in your life. This is THE greatest metal album in history, nothing comes close. The last Metallica album to feature the talents of the late, great Cliff Burton, this album could be released under the moniker 'Greatest Hits.' An essential purchase if ever there was one. Buy it now!!!

THE BEST THRASH ALBUM OF THE 80's.

Without a doubt this was the album that every thrash/ metal band wanted to replicate in the 80's, Every song a winner, and apart from the dated sound quality compared to modern releases every song still stands up to this day.
Personally whats great about this album is that Metallica weren't afraid to put in the slower, more melodic stuff ( dare I say ballad ).yes Orion takes a few listens to get into, but there aren't many metal bands that can make instrumentals like this, and they went on to make another great one on the follow up album in (To live is to die for) just to show it wasn't a fluke. This album was really quite progressive when you take into account the many varied sections that went into most of the song structures here. Many of the reviews rate Leper Messiah as the weakest song, but for me the first time i heard it upon the albums initial release in 86 it blew me away with it's slow chugging riffs, I still love it 22 years later. Infact I have never get bored of this album, a fair bit of time may pass nowadays between listening to it, but I look at this album like a good friend, brings back a lot of good memories..shame some of the modern metal bands cant reproduce this quality songwriting nowadays.
