The Final Frontier is a superb album, a modern classic in metal and an essential album to long-time fans of the band
Nothing on here is a filler or boring, and the fact is that songs on The Final Frontier usually contain so many smooth changes in time, beat, and riffing that one can not help but sit on the edge of their seat, wondering what journey the music will take them on nest. The Talisman is probably the best example of this on the album, with different riffs, tempos, and vocal melodies erupting every minute. After the chorus though, Iron Maiden goes all out in what can be described as a mixing of desperate guitars on top of amazing drum fills
Final Frontier is a fantastic album from a band that, despite working together for 35 years now, can still manage to sound fresh and exciting in places; that alone should be commended.
The single El Dorado took home the Grammy for Best Metal Performance, so if that isn't a good enough reason as to why its brilliant then I don't know what will.
When The Wild Wind Blows, at around eleven minutes, is the longest track on album, and by far the most effective. The eerie introduction, which includes the blowing of wind, a work of pure genius as it seamlessly, integrates into the rest of the song. Dickinson gives the perfect vocal score to the song, reverting to a far more traditional vocal style to the rest of the album. The rhythmic guitar work is absolutely stunning and effective, with an amazing instrumental piece at around the four and a half minute mark of the song. This is by far the best song on the album and it will surely be remembered by fans as one of the all time Maiden greats
Overall a classic maiden album doing what they do best. Up the irons and roll on The Final Frontier tour!
