  • At the request of Gordon Brown, X-Factor judge Simon Cowell is in the process of putting together a group featuring the cream of UK talent to record a song to raise money for the Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

Some of the biggest names in UK and American music have joined forces to record an emotive cover of the REM classic 'Everybody Hurts', to raise money for charities supporting the relief efforts in Haiti. The final line up of featured artists is Mariah Carey, Jon Bon Jovi, Robbie Williams, Rod Stewart, Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Miley Cyrus, Take That, Joe McElderry, Cheryl Cole, JLS, Mika, Michael Bublé, James Blunt, Kylie Minogue, James Morrison, Susan Boyle, and Westlife.

The single will split all proceeds 50/50 between DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) and The Sun newspaper's 'Helping Haiti' appeal. Prime Minister Gordon Brown has pledged to waive VAT on the single. The Haitian earthquake, which occurred on 12th January 2010 measuring a catastrophic 7.0 on the richter scale, is already estimated to have caused the deaths of over 250,000 people. 250,000 are in need of urgent aid and more than 2 million people are estimated homeless and in need of long term support to help rebuild their lives.

Not less than £1 from the sale of this CD will be divided equally between Disasters Emergency Committee (registered charity no 1062638) and The Sun's Helping Haiti Fund*

    * Monies paid to The Sun's Helping Haiti Fund will be paid directly to a charitable trust set up for The Sun by the Charities Aid Foundation (registered charity number 268369), and all monies received by that trust will be paid to registered charities to help those affected by the earthquake in Haiti.

how often have we seen country's that are among the world's poorist and least able to help themselves become victims of massive natural disasters.
aid though freely given aid has proved a slow process, even to this day so many are still in need of medical attention.
this recording a re-make of the 90's R.E.M. classic is with it's array of well known artist's an appropriate effort in helping the people of 'haiti' slowly recover.
the disc has two versions of the song on board, even if you are not keen on the recording, although in my opinion it's 'not a bad effort' ..... if you can, buy it anyway.

 Excellent work by all concerned

Let's face it charity records aren't usually much cop. This one's different however as it's a special song in the first place. Hope it rightly raises millions for the appeal. Nice one
