Thomas White's work with the Electric Soft Machine has been hugely acclaimed and quite rightly so but The Maximalist takes the whole thing onto another level completely.
This could very easily be an Angelo Badalmenti (or even Danny Elfman) film soundtrack in many ways interspersed with Kraftwerk-like jabs of electronica and out and out pertinent contemporary rock guitar shapes and lyrics.
The Maximalist is an album of maturity imbued with a dark playfulness that really marks Tomas White as a true musical adventurer. With the inclusion of a superb and faithful version of Warren Zevon's Almost like a Martyr, this is already sounding like one of the top albums of the year
