 UNEXPECTED AND BRILLIANT!

When the single the flood came out,i think a lot of people were surprised by the change of direction katie was clearly taking, but i kind of liked it,bought the album and applaud the unexpected change.
The album kicks off with i'd love to kill you, nice title eh?,but it's a well written song not far from her usual choice of song, but it's good opener.
The flood starts off slowly and kind of twists and turns showing signs of change in direction, soon leaving you without doubt. It may've put some people off,but i like it.
A happy place does sound a little odd in places, that new direction keeps going, and i'm glad it does.
A moment of madness,i love this track. Quite bonkers, but brilliant.
Red balloons is pleasant enough, nice lyrics, beautifully sung, but that's no surprise really.
Tiny alien, certainly another of the new direction tracks, quite bizzare, has really grown on me.
No fear of heights is a simple, nicely sung song, works well enough.
The one i love, can't really fault it,not the most memorable, but good enough.
Plague of love is another grower,a little weird, but no worse for it,and one of her rockier tracks, even makes it stand out a little.
God on drums, devil on the bass, this in my opinion is the best track on here.it's so far from what we'd expect of katie melua but just brilliant. There's something dark and enigmatic about this, perhaps even a little menacing. Really really like this.
Twisted is almost something you would expect with a tinge of something you wouldn't,if that makes any sense.
The house finishes the album off with that new sound this album so proudly displays, haunting you could say. Interesting finish to a stunning album.
This may well not be what a large percentage of her fans wanted, but it does show she is not afraid of change, and sometimes musical evolution is beautiful.

Nice idea, shame about the album!

As much as I love KM's music, I feel I was let down with this. There are one or two songs which are good, but the album doesn't seem to do anything for me. Shame. Let's hope for a better one next time.

 Great, effortless vocals

I love this album. Mellow music with great & effortless vocals. Tiny Alien and The House are my top favourites, but every song on the album is good and unique in its own way.

 Very disappointing!

Having been a big Katie Melua fan for a long time I ordered this CD as soon as I knew it was out, big mistake, should have listened to it first. I found it very retro (and not in a good way) and just not good to listen to. I just know that I will not be reaching for this one time and time again.

 Close to her best

After the slightly disappointing Pictures, this album is a treat for Melua fans and newcomers. It reminded me of Piece by Piece (her best) but a bit darker.
I've had it on about 5 times in a row now it seems to fly by despite being under 50 minutes in length. It flows like a rich, chocolatey dream with poignant lyrics and beats throughout.
My favourites are the hauntingly beautiful 'I'd Love to Kill You', 'The Flood', 'Red Balloons', 'No Fear Of Heights', 'Plague of Love', 'God On Drums, Devil on Bass' and the beautiful conclusion 'The House'.
Her voice is still wonderful and you can tell it's her but you can also sense growth in a number of the tracks. She seems to be finally evolving as an artist.
I would highly recommend this album, it is great quality as one would expect produced by William Orbit who also did the epic 'Ray of Light' with Madonna.
My best 5.99 spent in months.

A mixed bag, I can only agree with other reviews in that this has a dark edge with slow dramatic balads with Katie's fragile vocals. Best song by far for me on this album is 'The Flood' the production of this song mixed with Katie's vocals is outstanding.

 OUTSTANDING, MUST HAVE!!

This is Melua's best album so far. She has taken a direction to her songs compared to previous albums. If you enjoed Melua's first 3 studio albums then would love this album. She has really shown off her talent of songwriting and her voice.

All the songs on this album are amazing.

Ooo.. her dark side is showing

I like this album a lot. Lots of catchy songs. Some songs have a dark edge, but nothing too sinister.
