 Dream Theater's Finest Hour

Well it's there finest 77 minutes to be exact.
This album defines the band and modern prog rock/metal in general. It is my favourite album of all time and although i have listened to the tracks such as fatal tragedy, the dance of eternity and Home countless times the instrumentation always leaves me astonished.
All the songs are great but you cannot fully appreciate this album until you have listened to it in it's entiretiy, the only downside to the album is that afterwards nothing else will compare.

 Epic

This has to be one of the greatest albums of all time, it manages to create an atmosphere unlike anything ive ever heard. An absolutely stunning achievement which is quite rightly regarded by dream theater fans as their masterpiece

 Oh My God

This album is nothing short of a masterpiece, much like most of Dream Theaters albums. This album is not as heavy as the others but even as a big metalhead myself, Dream Theater have managed to convince me that if you point your mind to it, you can do anything. Just look at the range of this bands music! The songs on this album are so underrated...it's unheard of.
1) Regression: The hypnotist enters beginning the storyline and it has a nice acoustic song with James LaBries versatile vocals.
2) Overture 1928: Awesome instrumental, just awesome, epic and catchy.
3) Strange Deja Vu: Kicks in from Overture so well. This entire song is absolute incredible from start to finish with the instrumentals and the riffs behind the vocals.
4) Through My Words: Again it fades in amazingly from the song before and although it's short it is a beautiful piano masterpiece from LaBrie and Rudess.
5) Fatal Tragedy: Amazing fade in and this song possibly explains the storyline the best out of the entire album. This song involves you into the characters perspective so well, you can almost picture the song in a film.
6) Beyond This Life: Time changes in this song complete it.l Soft, quiet, heavy, fast, this song mixes them all. The winding solo's which storm towards the end of the song are E.V.I.L. The only part I can knock is one of Jordan Rudess' solo's which sounds a bit weird but other than that this song is amazing.
7) Through Her Eyes: This song boggled me a bit. The woman singing at the beginning made me feel like "Right, this isn't Dream Theater." but you realise that it is and when the song kicks in it's another beauty.
8) Home: Possibly the most epic song on the CD, this has unusual guitar effects which make the song. More winding solo's show off Dream Theaters incredible skills.
9) The Dance of Eternity: One thing I love about Dream Theater is their skill as a band. Even people who dislike them can NEVER say they aren't talented because I have never found a more talented band. This song demonstrates how incredible they are when they want to be. OHHHHH THE BASS!!!
10) One Last Time: The lyrics in this song were written by James LaBrie...I conclude the fact that he should write more songs because this is yet another masterpiece.
11) The Spirit Carries On: The cheesiest Dream Theater song I've ever heard but it is also rediculously catchy and amazing. James LaBrie completes the song and the less conspicuous woman vocalist from Through Her Eyes is heard in the background here. The solo within this son is phenomenal.
12) Finally Free: I love the lyrics to this song explaining the past of the main character and the storyline comes out more. Love all of the riffs in this song and the background bit where the main characters can be heard fighting just completes it. It ends strangely with the storyline and a load of static noise.

Overall this album is amazing and £3.99? You should be asking yourself why NOT to buy it!

 Open Your Eyes Nicholas!

Dream Theater excel themselves with the release of Metropolis Part 2 (scenes From A Memory) bringing with it some of their best work to date. The album tells the story of Nicholas a modern day man who is trying to solve the mystery behind his dreams, to find out who "the girl in the mirror" really is. The story unfolds as the album goes on reveling the true faces of the sleeper and the miracle from Metropolis Part 1. As the story comes to its conclusion Nicholas finally learns the truth about the girl and in turn is set free, a most unfortunate set of circustances turns the story around in Dream Theater's "Finally Free" bringing the story to a tradgic end. In the end the album is just fantastic, my opinion makes it Dream Theater's best album I really am unable to fault it.
In addition Jordan Rudess is a legend espescially when he plays the Ragtime piano Solo in Dance of Eternity.

Wow. This really is a masterpiece.

Top 100 Music Reviewer

After buying my first Dream theater album awhile ago which was systematic chaos. I decided buy an older album from them so i decided to buy this one, and i was not disspointed. Every track is excellent. The whole album tells a story. Dream Theater are really a talented band and must be heard by any metal fan. Even the slow songs are amazing jame's voice is really amazing, very melodic and goes really well with music. The album is brilliant and does not dissapoint. From the first listen it was amazing which shocked me. I'm very glad i bought as it is a masterpiece from proggresive metallers Dream Theater. I would suggest this to anybody who loves metal and anyone who loves talented musicians. A must for dream theater fan obviously!!!!
