What a fantastic album, burning sun is a must listen. Well done boyos. Also have a look at the 'story of the storys' book on their web page - great read.
Fabulous third and final album from the best Welsh band ever. A must for all fans of The Storys. Looking forward to hearing these new tunes live in Swansea Grand Theatre
The Storys third and final album (although we hope only for now), moving into different directions and developing on from their self-titled debut album and follow up Town Beyond The Trees. The final gigs may be imminent but it's never too late to get into their music. Highly recommended. Gwych!
One of the golden rules of music is to always leave your audience wanting more. With Luck, the third..and sadly last...studio album by welsh rockers The Storys, they have certainly done that...and then some.
Building on the songwriting and harmonies found in their self titled debut album, and its successor, Town Beyond The Trees, Luck is a veritable cornucopia of aural delights, enhanced by the addition of newest member Rosalie Deighton.
Kicking of with first single "Everybody Wants You To Make It" - no hint of irony there then - "Luck" takes us on a journey that is sure to become the soundtrack to summer 2010. Andy Collins' vocal on"Daylight Calls Again" is poignant, and the guitar work of Rob Thompson on "Burning Sun" is just sublime. Deighton takes lead vocals on "Please Come Home" a song that nods to Fleetwood Mac...no bad thing at all ! For me the stand out tracks are "California" with vocal harmonies aplenty, "Long Way Up" ("So Do You Think We've Failed ?" sings lead vocalist Steve Balsamo...quite the opposite Steve), and "Before I Fall" which could've been recorded by The Eagles, so pure and honest are the harmonies.....indeed, Balsamo was once hailed as "The welsh Don Henley" and you can hear why on this track. The jewel in the crown though is closer "All Inside"...Balsamo's emotional vocal exquisitely layered over Alan Thomas's beautiful piano...a song that deserves to be an international hit.
So that's Luck, and with it, the curtain falls on The Storys...for now at least......I have a sneaky feeling that smewhere down the road our paths will cross again...until then, the summer of 2010 will always be inextricably linked and enriched by a huge slice of Luck !
Fabulous album from the guys (and gal). Lovely acoustic melodies and gorgeous harmonies as always.
It's a shame they are splitting up...our loss.
Look forward to the last gig on the 19th in Swansea.
