I first listened to this many years after it was first released as a friend got me into them only a couple years ago, but as soon as I listened to this in it's entirety I couldn't believe I hadn't had this album in my life long ago.

These are not cheerful songs, Adam Duritz has had more than his share of personal problems, some after this album, but there's a life affirming-ness about them deep down. 'Round Here' is epic in it's evocation of small town life and the limits it brings, 'Anna Begins' is heartbreaking, 'Sullivan Street' makes me ache and 'Raining in Baltimore' and then my own all-time favourite 'A Murder of One' finishes off the album. You know I don't even listen to this album and pretend to understand all the songs, because I feel it, I get it - this just connects to me like all truly great albums should.

And it's only £2.99. Give it a try, maybe it will do the same to you.

Top 100 Music Reviewer

This is, without a shadow of doubt, the best album EVER made, seriously I've had to buy 3 copies now as the other 2 have been played so much theyv'e developed too many scratches and they keep jumping!
This album has a perfect mixture of slow sad songs, such as "Round Here", and "Raining In Baltimore", which can really bring a tear to your eye, aswell as some brilliant faster and happy songs like "Rain King" and "Omaha". This change of melody in the album can physically throw you from one mood to another.
Listen to the lyrics carefully in this album and you really get to learn about some of Adam's past experiences and story's.
It really is a shame Play.com couldn't let me give this 6 stars out of 5 but oh well 5 will do, seriously this really is a fantastic album and there should be a copy of this CD in everybody's home.

This album is incredible, smooth rock, with sensitive ballads, and moving music.

The writing talent that is Adam Duritz is incredible, you feel his pain with every melody, every chord and heart felt note he sings!

Buy it, it will depress you!
