I don't normally bother writing reviews online, but had to take issue with the '2 star' review up on play at the mo. Obviously, music is all about opinions, and yes you can argue that this album lacks a happy, bouncy narrative...but the truth of the matter is that this record is simply beautiful. If you want to hear reflective, tender songwriting against a harmonious and often beautifully haunting backdrop then I really cannot recommend this work highly enough. Rather than feeling like I lost an hour to this album, everytime I listen to it I feel privileged to have been able to do so. Great.
Good thing i wasn't paying attention!

Not being a huge fan of The Doves (havn't not heard any of their music) i really didn't know what to expect and i was shocked! 'Firesuits' started of promising enough but after about 5 minutes i soon realised what i was in for. The album is a few seconds under an hour and it's an hour i'm not getting back! It was so depressing. There were very few glimpses of a happy songwriter and for the listener it was almost too much! The only surprise and moment of relief came when 'Catch The Sun' started (a song you may know from Jamie Cullum's new album) but it was truely disheartening. I finished the album feeling as though all happiness had been drained out of my body. The lyrics and good and the band is good at playing the music but would 1 happy song be too much to ask? I wouldn't recommend this to any1, unless they're a big fan already!
