QOTSA are one of the best bands around and this album is undeniably amazing. From the moment the noise of the car door shutting, engine starting and the tuning of the radio for '.....millionaire' you'll be hooked. each song as strong as the one it succeeded. Catchy tunes such as 'Go with the flow' 'No one knows' and 'The sky is falling' just make this album a complete essential to anyone with taste. Definately my favourite album ever.
Listen, if you're post - 30 and still want to pretend you have it - like me - then just buy this!
Certain people would have you believe that Queens of the Stone Age's third album, Songs for the Deaf, is the return of real rock -- a bonecrushing work of boundless imagination, the cornerstone in a new era of great rock, much like Nevermind was a decade beforehand. These people, coincidentally, happen to be in the same group that criticizes the Strokes and the White Stripes, claiming that those two bands are nothing but hype, while shamelessly indulging in breathless hyperbole whenever they speak a single word about QOTSA. Anybody who heard Songs prior to its release claimed it was the greatest rock album in years, at least the greatest since Rated R, setting up expectations impossibly high for this very good album. To begin with, this ain't accessible -- not because the music is out-there or unfamiliar, but because it is so insular, so concerned with pleasing themselves with what they play that they don't give a damn for the audience.
QOTSA have recorded the ultimate driving album. There is no better feeling in the world than driving along a motorway at night and listening to the epic album that is 'Songs For The Deaf'.
From the mock radio opening of "Millionaire...' through the incredible 'Sky Is Fallin', via the catchy 'Go With The Flow' and all the way to the closing 'A Song For The Deaf', there is not a bad song here. Each one will keep your feet tapping and your head nodding.
Musically, QOTSA are amazing. With Dave Grolh (Foo Fighters lead singer/Nirvana drummer') on drums for this album, they sound even better than before. Lyrically, they are unbelievable cool. The three frontmen all share duties singing on different tracks, each with their own style, each sounding great.
Truly epic in scope and style, this album will keep you going on that long drive home one night. Perfect for the car, but also musically brilliant and worth listening to anytime. I highly suggest buying it.
A truly great album from a truly amazing band. There isn't a bad song here, and the more you listen to it, the better the songs become. Personal favourites include: No One Knows, Go With the Flow, and Everybody's Gonna Be Happy.
