This debut album from Bristol's Portishead was one of the great debuts of the mid-90s and it still sounds as fresh and innovative now as it did then. Beth Gibbons gorgeous vocals are backed by Geoff Barrow's haunting dub beats and sampling. Glory Box is a classic single that will be instantly recognisable. There isn't a bad track on this album though and if you don't own it then you're probably not worth knowing!
This album has aged incredibly well, arguably better than another 'trip-hop' classic of the time - Massive Attack's Blue Lines.
This is a must have album.
Astonishing debut album that has more than stood the test of time.
If this isnt in your collection, beg borrow or steal to get it. It's astounding how many times you can listen to this, track for track and hear something new every time. Ever track is a classic in its own right and the only crying shame is that its only 10 songs long. One that you'll come back to over and over again. Superb for a mellow night in!
