Well what can you say about Damien Rice that hasnt already been said, if you like your music to be raw, meaningful and full of real emotion instead of manufactured sound and vocals then Damien's for you. Awesome singer, musician and song writer !!

 Incredibly Unique!

Now, this is a truly work of art.

I will try to put some more thoughts different than the rest of the reviews... The first time you hear this, you will think it may be some kind of joke, a bunch of guys sitting in their living room playing some very soft, emotional tunes.

But from the second time and on you will discover the unbelievable magic of this album. Damien has written some wonderful tunes, he actually sat in the living room and recorded some warm moments with his friends, put in some incredible female vocals, both backing and front and voila!

I mean, there is a song where instead of drumming (even a soft one) there are some glass cheerings instead! The song is "Cheers darling", and in my opinion it can't get more innovative than this! And every song has a surprise like that waiting...

This is one classic album for the years to come.

Light some candles, pour some wine, take your boy or girlfriend and listen to it. A treasure ready to be discovered...

Nothing in the genre comes close to this album, songs like cannon ball, amie, cold water and the blowers daughter. Infact every song on the album is a 5 star song. the lyrics are brillant. worth every penny. Just amazing

I cant describe in words how beautiful some of the songs are on this album. The words, the vocals and the music just flow into one with such ease and its probably this thats at the heart of the magic in this album and its what makes Damien so unique and stand out from all the other artists. Its hard to belive that this happened so well on a debut album. All i can say is go out and buy it, be patient with it as its not all about "the Blowers daughter" and "canonnball" and you will grow to tresure this work of art.

i am a big fan of all music, but metal is usually what i listen to mostly, but this album hit me harder than any other, it is utterly spellbinding, i still get goosebumps everytime i here each song.even when Cannonball was played alot over the radio, somehow it was still bearable.i will definatly keep this album forever,it is a timeless classic.

 Come back Lisa Hannigan :(

Two words to me define the source of strength behind this album. Those two words are: Lisa Hannigan. Her vocals outshine anything produced by Damien and provide the element of soulful emotion that make this a recording worthy of 5 stars. Unfortunately Lisa has now parted ways with Damien Rice as their 'creaitve relationship' has allegedly 'run its course' so it seems the live set no longer operate as a 'band' but as an assembled group of musicians which makes me less excited about what we can expect from the third album. Personal favourites are 'I remember', 'Cold Water' 'Eskimo' and the hidden 'Silent Night' to play us out. Seep this one up, it doesn't look like it will be replicated :(

 Sweet & Sour Rice

A really amazing album, Damian sings with such soul that you know he's felt every emotion through every note! What's just as impressive is the backing singer he uses, she is incredible, especially on Volcano.

If you like easy listening a la folky & Irish, this is perfect!

 MAGICAL

This album, along with few others, is the best I have ever listened to. Damien Rice's voice is fantastic and enchanting. The album is a collection of beautifully written and sung songs. I would recommend this to people who enjoy a bit of different music, and those who like Ray Lamontagne. This really is a superb album.
