Comment: DJ SHADOW Entroducing (1996 UK 16-track debut CD album era-defining release from Josh Davis AKA DJ Shadow who painstakingly assembled a superb album from samples of obscure hip hop funk psychedelia spoken word and the weird and wonderful to craft a moody intense listening experience that sounds as good today as it did back in 1996. Housed in a jewel case with detailed liner notes the sleeve and disc are both in excellent condition)

Dance for those don't like dance

I first got into this album with the help of my philosophy teacher who had to write about the 'beauty' of this album for his exam at university.

He was right, it indeed is a beautiful album. I was also impressed by the eclecticism of the samples. In fact you can find samples of Metallica and Grandmaster Flash (two artists who probably wouldn't under any other circumstances) on "The Number Song".

The standout track for me is 'Midnight in a Perfect World' which is truly soothing with the use of an etheral vocal and dreamy keyboard.

This is a landmark album which eradicates the borders that separate dance music from other genres.

a classic trip-hop album and certainly no dance album!
this is a laid back lounge album with some very dark edges coming from hip-hop, trance and dance. but also with influences of jazz.
you can call it ecclectic, but certainly it's a little masterpiece of very spheric music.
