Formed in 1978, sky were a classical-rock band that enjoyed huge success in the album charts and scored a top 5 hit single with Toccata. When he died in September 2008, composer, arranger and pianist Steve Gray left a vast legacy that encompassed every musical idiom and genre. As sky's keyboard player for 14 years, Steve's work is featured heavily on this compilation. From the throbbing urgency of Westway to the epic sprawl of FIFO, sky's earlier career with Francis Monkman is well represented. Steve Gray's input can be heard on 18 of the 27 tracks - 8 of which he had a hand in arranging or composing. Highlights include the majestic Chiropodie No. 1, the rather funky Sister Rose and the techno-flavoured The Great Balloon Race. The set concludes, appropriately, with Steve's serene and reflective Night Sky. Featuring at least two tracks that are virtually impossible to find on CD, this compilation is well worth buying.
