As the opening song will demonstrate 'Neon Ballroom' is literally light years off the style of Frogstomp and Freak Show, yet you still get the same atmosphere, if not more. This album is a super example of a band becoming more mature. There are insane melodies, Strings, lots of switching between acoustic and distorted guitar work not to mention Daniel Johns voice and lyrics. Whilst Frogstomp may have dealt with what the band saw on TV and wrote songs about, Neon Ballroom deals with eating disorders and other generally more mature subject natures. This complements the new style the band have achieved. Whilst grungy songs, such as Anthem for the year 2000 and Spawn again show us they can still rock out, we have the epic Emotion Sickness and heartfelt Ana's Song. A successful attempt at diversifying their music: 4 stars............[Useless fact: The title is mimetic of the albums ideology, 'Neon' being the new styles they incorporate and 'Ballroom' being the classic Silverchair sound]
