this is a good CD, but i will admit there can be room for improvement. there is only 5 or maybe 6 songs that i would say are the greatest hits, the others i think were hand picked to make up the album, but overall its a good cd

Millamoor is absolutely right. This is a Greatest Hits album.... Not a best of. All of you "hardcore" Guns N' Roses fans who appear to think you're a cut above the rest of the music fans who like Guns N' Roses are moaning about something that you've got completely wrong. And if you're all so "hardcore" then you should have all the albums anyway, with all the songs on that would be on a best of, therefore rendering another album useless. People like you annoy me. Basically rating something as bad due to your pretentious and "high and mighty" views on music.

Since this album is called GREATEST HITS it can come as no surprise to fans or haters that the songs on the album is indeed the hits. Not the unknown songs that fans might believe are the best that this band gave us, but simply the songs that made GNR the biggest rockband in their time. I'm no big fan of Axls voice but the music and the songs are strong and you can't help but sing along to several of them.

For those of us fortunate (and rare) enough to call ourselves real Guns fans, this album stands supreme as one of the greatest insults available on the shop shelves. What you are buying is a commercial hits package; which is fine if you're buying Abba albums. But the songs and music that made Guns N' Roses one of the most influential bands in rock history is NOT on this album. What you are given here is a platter of lukewarm mediocrity. Where is the spine tingling brilliance of 'Coma'? And the eerie melody of 'Estranged'? Where is the in-your-face badness of 'Rocket Queen'?! Please. For the sake of your musical integrity. Go out and buy their albums individually, and close the window on this travesty of a money-making cash cow. You will find no brilliance here, except perhaps something to give to a 12 year old nu-metal nerd. Don't buy this. Please. I'm begging you. It's an insult to the human ear.

its strange how this greatest hits of Guns N Roses was up for pre-ordering considering it was out in 2004 but all i can say is this is not a bad greatest hits collection but not a very good one as this would have been made by AXL incorperated since he is the sole person of Guns N Roses and had he not let the power and the fame go to his head then the pre-appetite for destruction and use your illusion line up of what was once a great dirrty rock n roll band would have put in a lot of effort in making this the definitive best of collection of all of their best songs taken from their short but great back catalogue.

This is more a selection of Guns 'n' Roses' best more then the best.
Don't get me wrong there are some great songs. For it to be the "Best of" in the true sense of the word you would really need two CDs.
If you want the true best of guns n roses buy appetite for destruction and download the best tracks from UYI1&2.
Great for people who like guns n roses a little, but a fan deserves more.

Most of the tracks people are refering to as their best came of AFD, and yes, it was probably one of the best albums ever made. However this album shows that there was a lot more to Guns and Roses than just one album.
If you havnt heard many GnR tracks but like what you've heard then this is probably the album for you, if you're already into GnR then id agree that live era is a far more balanced album, but then again its twice the length so can fit more songs=]]

I have never liked "Greatest Hits" collections, it has to be chart worthy to be a hit... I prefer "Best Of" compilations in which the band contribute a hell of a lot of effort into it.

This album lacks some awesome tracks, no Nightrain? No Out Ta Get Me? and also no You're Crazy.

If ya like Guns N Roses and need to listen to there over-played tunes then buy this, but if you are a fan and require more I suggest purchasing "Live Era 87-93", best Guns N Roses album I own...plus it's live and is so awesome.

GNR have had 1 decent album. Their career then nosedived with UYI 1 + 2', 'Spaghetti'. The decent tracks on this collection (put together by record execs, tho GNR were happy to take the profits from sales) are drawn from AFD. The covers, 'Knockin on heavens door' and 'Sympathy' are an embarrassment and place the band firmly in the 'Bon Jovi' pop-lite rock department. Subsequent (new and re-hashed)bands from the members of GNR - Velvet Revolver STP amongst others - are left doing tired covers of GNR songs as their own material is so woefully sub standard. It is reassuring however to know that it is still easy to fool most of the people most of the time. This album went platinum after all!!

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars GNR at their commercial best

This is a good collection of songs from a great 80's band.
It does not contain a lot of the album 'tracks' as it seems to be aimed at the more commercial market - ie young kids - which considering some of the lyrics is probably a good thing.

I want to just correct elduderino on a couple of things - the band themselves did not want this collection released as they do not consider it a good reprsentation of the band's music - the release of this even had Slash and Axl being on the same side!

As for they have not done anything since - if you were a fan of 'rock' as you claim then surely you would of heard of Velvet Revolver? - who have 3 members of Guns N Roses?
